The villa doors shut, cutting off the lawrr and Piper’s cheerful telepathic hum. Inside, the quiet was absolute. The air smelled of old paper and Julian’s expensive tobacco-luxury preserved perfectly by Joanna’s glitching system.

She walked into the study Julian stood by the arched window. He looked like the ruthless CEO he used to be, standing in absolute power. Remembering their kiss, Joanna blushed a little and approached him.

Slowly, Julian turned. His dark eyes locked onto hers with a heavy, physical weight. He moved with predatory grace, closing the distance until she could feel the heat radiating from his chest.

“You took your time,” Julian said. His low voice vibrated through her.

“I was securing Jolie and the plant,” Joanna replied, keeping her voicè steady.

Julian dropped the paper onto the desk behind him without breaking eye contact. He leaned forward, planting his hands on the wood and trapping her against it. He smelled of rain and iron.

“The plant can wait,” he whispered, his eyes scanning her face. “Time alone with you is hard to get.”

Joanna held her ground. She looked up, refusing to drop her gaze.

Julian reached out. His knuckles brushed the skin just beneath her jaw, right over her racing pulse. It was a slow, deliberate claim. He leaned down, his lips a breath away from her ear.

“Next time, Joanna,” he murmured, his hot breath brushing her skin, ” don’t leave me waiting when I desperately need a kiss.”

A slow, mischievous smile tugged at the corner of Joanna’s lips. Instead of shrinking back against the desk, she leaned forward just a fraction of an inch, deliberately invading his carefully maintained personal

space.

“Desperately?” she repeated, her voice dropping to a smooth, quiet purr. “A powerful, top-tier CEO brought to his knees by a giant weed and a mutant pigeon? The apocalypse has really softened your negotiation skills, Julian.”

Julian blinked, caught entirely off guard by the sheer absurdity of the image. The rigid, demanding tension in his shoulders suddenly snapped. A low, genuine chuckle rumbled deep in his chest, and his lips curved into a rare, handsome smile that completely melted his icy facade.

Joanna laughed softly with him, the heavy power struggle dissolving into pure warmth.

As their laughter faded into a breathless, comfortable quiet, Joanna stood on her tiptoes. She closed the remaining distance and pressed a soft, lingering kiss directly to his lips. It was gentle, sweet, and entirely on her own terms.

Julian’s smile lingered as he took her hand, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. He guided her away from the desk and led her to the leather sofa against the wall, pulling her down to sit close beside him.

He picked up the document from the desk and laid it across her lap. “I found this paper,” Julian said, his voice returning to that steady, commanding tone she knew so well. “It details a set of communication

watches tied directly to your Level 14 storage space. Once activated, a watch will absorb into any bonded partner, allowing us to speak to each other telepathically no matter where we are. It is highly efficient and impressive.”

He reached over to the side table and picked up a sleek, metallic case, flipping it open to reveal twenty small, glowing watches resting in neat velvet slots. He pointed to the interface. “They can also track our locations, capture images, and stream real-time video.”

Joanna looked from the case to Julian, genuine excitement lighting up her eyes. They all carried standard satellite phones, but in the chaotic shifting of the apocalypse, those signals were notorious for dropping out when things got dangerous. This system was entirely different. Tied directly to her pocket dimension, it was completely reliable, unjammable, and secure.

Joanna turned to Julian, her excitement shifting into a focused, calculating look. “Do you think we should get Major Levi?”

Julian sighed, running a hand through his hair as the heavy weight of leadership settled back over him. “We can do it, but rushing off would not be right. If Levi has a week of rations, we leave today and get everyone to Westridge first.”

He leaned in closer, his dark eyes mapping out the strategy. “Leaving them with the shipping containers would be ideal in case we don’t make it back to them before winter. It would be dangerous moving at night, but at least we could leave Westridge and arrive in Tech Valley in four to five days.”
