Chapter 250 Call Me Boss Now

Finished

Unable to take the crushing pressure, Jessica broke down, sobbing hysterically as she stared around the room. “Monsters! All of you are monsters! Julian, you know father always treated you like a son, how could you do this to me!”

Julian took a step forward his jaw tight as arcs of bright electricity began to dance violently inside his eyes. Anyone looking directly at him became instantly terrified; the raw power crackling in his gaze showed he was fully prepared to erase his family’s old connection.

Kailee, unable to stand the sight of her, sneered as the wind whipped her hair. “You call us monsters? Say the word, boss! I’ll kill her right now.”

Joanna looked down at the weeping girl and let out a long, heavy sigh, looking thoroughly aggrieved by the pathetic display. “Let her go. She can live life out in this apocalypse, which is a punishment far worse than killing her outright.”

Rachel, still burning with anger, wasn’t about to let her off that easily. With a sharp flick of her hand, she seized complete control of Jessica’s motor functions through the mental link.

Instantly, Jessica’s own hand flew up.

CRACK.

She began to violently slap herself across the face, forced to repeat the motion twenty times under Rachel’s psychic command. Jessica was crying hysterically, snot and tears dripping down her nose, her skin swelling and turning a dark crimson with each brutal strike she was forced to give herself.

Kailee’s wind power surged, violently throwing open the front doors of the mansion. A focused, invisible gale slammed into Jessica, blowing her entirely out of the house and onto the frozen driveway.

Before the sobbing girl could even scramble to her feet, Kailee twisted her wrists, channeling the air into a roaring, localized tornado. The swirling vortex snatched Jessica off the ground, lifted her high into the freezing morning air, and threw her clean over the fortified security gates, dropping her into the snow-

covered street outside.

The heavy front doors slammed shut with a definitive thud, locking securely.

The sudden silence in the grand hall was palpable. Everyone in the room collectively breathed a long, deep sigh of relief, the suffocating tension finally evaporating from the mansion.

Briggs slowly let the flames on his knuckles die down. He crossed his arms, turning his gaze toward Julian with a dry, mocking smirk.

“You know, Julian,” Briggs said, his deep voice echoing in the quiet room, “for a guy with high-voltage electricity powers, your choice in women shows you’ve got remarkably low brain wattage.”

“Go upstairs, clean up, and use the showers,” Joanna told her core group, her voice returning to its steady, commanding tone.

She turned her gaze to Major Levi, who was watching her with a newfound level of respect. “Send me the men from your group who have awakened powers.” She paused for a beat, her sharp expression softening

just a fraction. And also, send a few helpers down to the kitchen for Julian. He’s going to need it.”

Five minutes later with Joanna dressed properly, the mansion felt a bit more orderly. Major Levi stood in the living room alongside six of his men, all of them looking anxious but curious.

Joanna didn’t waste time with small talk. “The reason my group is so strong compared to yours isn’t just luck,” she stated bluntly, looking over the soldiers. “You guys are still sitting at level one. We are already at levels three and four.”

Joanna reached into her pocket dimension and pulled out a heavy burlap sack, dropping it onto the coffee table with a solid thump. She opened it to reveal a pile of glowing zombie cores. “These are what you need to level up,” she said, picking up one that pulsed with faint light. “Every zombie has one. Hold it, focus, and pull the energy into yourself.”

Major Levi and his six awakened soldiers leaned in, completely transfixed by the shimmering crystals.

“But it isn’t a pleasant ride,” Joanna warned, her voice dropping into a serious register. “Your body will feel like it’s on fire as your veins stretch to handle the new power capacity. But if you survive the upgrade, your level increases, your output doubles, and you stop being prey.”

She slid the heavy burlap bag across the coffee table toward Major Levi.

“Take them,” Joanna ordered. “Divide them among your six/awakened men and get them to level two. We are going to burn Blood Fang out of this city very soon, and I don’t have time to play babysitter to a bunch of level one soldiers.”

Levi grabbed a core from the bag, turning the glowing crystal over in his hand. “This is what was missing from those zombies in the tunnels?”

Joanna nodded. “Yeah. They were altered. More people are learning about these already, so it’s important you catch up soon,”

She sat back and guided the men through the absorption process. They held the crystals tight, closed their eyes, and drew the raw energy into their systems. When their eyes snapped open, they looked around the room in absolute shock.

“It worked!” one of the soldiers gasped, feeling the sudden, violent surge of power expanding in his chest.

Eager to grow stronger, the men immediately started absorbing more cores to push through the painful upgrade. Joanna smiled, satisfied with their progress, and stood up to leave the living room. Before she could take a step, Levi stopped her.

“How can the rest of my men get powers if they don’t have any yet?” Levi asked, his voice laced with concern for the thirty-four unawakened soldiers upstairs.

Joanna turned back. “I am not sure exactly, but I know that extreme conditions tend to get people to awaken. Usually, it takes a life-or-death scenario to force the body to adapt.”

Levi nodded slowly, absorbing her words, and gave her a deep, meaningful look. “Thank you again, Joanna. For saving us back there.”
