words had barely left Carl’s mouth when the highway erupted into a chaotic gunfight.

Muzzle flashes illuminated the cold, gray noon as the Blood Fang soldiers opened fire. A hail of bullets shredded the air, but Jake bolted to the front line, thrusting his hands forward. Using his metal-/ manipulation ability, Jake dragged the iron from the road’s reinforced asphalt and the surrounding debris, forming a massive, seamless metal shield. The enemy’s bullets flattened against it in a deafening metallic

rain.

From behind the shield, Briggs stepped out, his eyes ablaze. He whipped his arms forward, launching roaring, basketball-sized fireballs directly into the oncoming trucks. The explosions tore through the sheet metal, instantly setting two of the vehicles-and the men inside them-completely on fire.

Amidst the smoke, Carl lunged forward, his eyes locking onto Joanna. He clenched his fists, forcing his water ability past her spatial defenses. Joanna gasped as the moisture was violently pulled from her throat and eyes, her skin instantly drying and her lungs seizing as she dropped to her knees.

Seeing her fall, Brandon stepped up. Veins bulging against his temples, he unleashed a massive psychic wave, blasting his mental ability directly into Carl’s mind. Carl shrieked, clutching his head as the mental assault forced him to break his concentration, breaking his grip on Joanna’s body.

With Joanna coughing, drawing air back into her parched lungs, Julian stepped past her,

He unleashed a mind-blowing display of raw power, proving exactly why he had earned the terrifying moniker of the Executioner. Lightning fractured the sky, dropping down in a devastating web of blue-white electricity. The voltage arced from Julian’s fingertips, tearing through the metal structures of the remaining trucks and leaping between the soldiers. Men dropped instantly, paralyzed and fried by the blinding current. Within seconds, the overwhelming scent of ozone and scorched earth filled the frozen highway, leaving nothing but dead silence in its wake.

Before the remaining soldiers could recover from Julian’s lightning, Kailee leaped forward. She swept her arms out, unleashing massive, violent pulses of compressed air that sent a dozen bodies flying thirty feet backward into the frozen treeline.

Joanna, her throat still burning, pushed herself to her feet and locked her eyes onto the disoriented Blood Fang leader.

With a sharp tug of her will, she vanished.

A localized rift tore open directly behind Carl. Joanna materialized out of the void, her face twisted in fury. Channeling every ounce of her enhanced strength, she brought her heavy sickle sword down onto the top of Carl’s head with explosive force. The blade sheared completely through him, splitting him cleanly in half and sending a massive spray of crimson blood across the white snow.

The remaining battlefield fell into a stunned, horrified silence.

The echo of the blade striking the asphalt faded, leaving nothing but the sound of dripping blood and the crackle of burning trucks. The team stood frozen, but it was Levi’s men-who had survived the harsh, cutthroat environment of Tech Valley-who looked completely shell-shocked. They had seen executioners, but they had never witnessed that level of raw, overwhelming brutality.

“Holy hell,” one of the frontline soldiers whispered, his rifle lowering slightly as his chest heaved. “She didn’t

just kill him. She… she erased him.”

Fold-you

Rid you see the speed on that?” another muttered, wiping a stray drop of blood off his tactical visor, his voke thick with absolute awe. “Carl was a high-level tier boss. He literally melted an entire squad last week. And she split him like firewood.”

A third soldier swallowed hard, nudging the man next to him. “Man, I’m glad we’re on her convoy. Reminder to self: never, ever get on the demoness’s bad side.”

Levi himself just stood there, staring at the split remains of the Blood Fang leader, before slowly turning b gaze to Joanna with a new, profound level of respect. He walked towards the soldier on the ground with a gunshot wound bleeding from his left thigh.

The medic quickly bound the soldier’s leg, checking the bloody exit wound on his thigh. “The bullet passed clean through,” the medic confirmed, looking up at Levi. “As long as he doesn’t get an infection, he should be fine.”

Despite the reassurance, a few of the guys nearby looked deeply worried. In the apocalypse, medical supplies were scarce, and a post-injury infection was a slow death sentence.

Joanna walked over, the blood from her sickle sword already disappearing into a spatial rift. She reached into her pocket dimension and pulled out two large jugs of water from the healing hot spring inside her storage space.

“In addition to the medical care, pour some of this on his wound every few hours,” Joanna ordered, handing the heavy jugs to the medic. She fixed him with a firm, unblinking look. “Don’t ask questions… but it will help.”

The medic looked highly skeptical, staring at the plain jugs of water. But he glanced down at the split remains of Carl a few feet away, swallowed hard, and nodded quickly. Who was supposed to argue with her after what they had just witnessed?

“Understood, boss,” the medic muttered, immediately packing the jugs into his kit.

Joanna ordered everyone to scavenge the bodies and unburned vehicles. Amid the cleanup, she paused near Brandon.

“Thanks for the help back there,” she said.
