two jeeps pulled up to a dark, cavernous warehouse on the edge of the district, their headlights cutting through the swirling snow. As the vehicles idled, Joanna looked through the frosted windshield and froze. Standing near the loading dock, pulling up the collar of his coat against the freezing wind, was Drew.
Before Glacier could even reach for his door handle, Juanna lunged across the center console. Her fingers clamped onto Glacier’s forearm, gripping him so tightly that the leather of his jacket groaned under the
pressure.
“You brought Drew into this mess?” Joanna hissed, her voice cutting like a razor. “Are you stupid or something?”
Glacier turned on her, his face instantly contorting with fury. He bared his teeth, a low growl tearing from his throat as the air inside the jeep plummeted toward freezing. He looked ready to fly into a murderous rage right then and there.
But Joanna didn’t flinch. She let go of his arm and locked her gaze directly onto his.
Her eyes were dark, steady, and possessed an almost hypnotic intensity. For a fraction of a second, the sheer weight of her conviction completely paralyzed Glacier’s anger, catching him off guard.
“If Drew is here, and I turn out to be right,” Joanna said, her voice dropping to a calm, terrifyingly certain whisper, “I would not be surprised at all if he had something to do with this whole mess.”
Glacier paused, the fury draining from his face as a sudden, unsettling realization struck him.
His mind raced. It was Drew who had personally received the encrypted message from Kimmy about tonight’s delivery. According to the message, Kim needed the weapons for her father’s secret hideout, which was located just a few blocks away from this side of town. Even though Kimmy’s dad had always despised him, Glacier had rationalized the request. He figured that one day, after he finally conquered Dillon, Kimmy’s father would respect his power and finally give the two of them his blessing to marry.
Now, Joanna’s words sowed a dark, icy seed of doubt in his mind.
Glacier shook his head aggressively, trying to break the hypnotic hold of her stare. Without a word, he slammed his hand against the door handle, shoved it open, and stepped out into the biting cold.
The heavy metal doors of the warehouse groaned open, revealing a cavernous interior where the smell of motor oil mixed strangely with the scent of cheap perfume. Waiting in the center of a cleared space was Kim. She was a voluptuous woman, dressed in a form-fitting winter coat that did little to hide her curves. She had a pretty face, but the moment she parted her lips, any illusion of elegance vanished.
“Glenn! My honey bunny!” Kim cried out, her voice high, grating, and dripping with the whiny tone of a thoroughly spoiled brat.
Joanna froze in her tracks, her tactical focus momentarily derailed. His name is Glenn?
She quickly raised a hand to cover her mouth, desperately hiding the snicker that threatened to burst out. The fearsome warlord Glacier, master of the frozen fortress, was named Glenn the Honey Bunny. It was almost too much to bear.
Choosing to blend into the background, Joanna paused near the perimeter guards, more than happy to just

stand back and watch the show. In the center of the room, Glacier and Kimmy sat down at a small table awkwardly set for a candlelit dinner.
As the couple began to converse, a shadow fell over Joanna. She turned her head to find Drew stepping up to stand beside her. He looked deeply confused, his eyes darting between her and the dinner table.
“Joanna, what are you doing here?” Drew asked, his voice low. When he looked at her, his gaze was a foul cocktail of suspicion and blatant lust. Drew was the kind of man who had always used women to get ahead, and it was written all over his face.
Not trusting him for a single second, Joanna lied straight to his face without a hint of hesitation. “I saw Glacier leaving tonight and wanted to discuss a deal with him. He was kind enough to let me come along for
the ride.”
