Chapter 266 Your Cousin Is A Little Creepy
Brandon slid into the passenger seat as Joanna took the wheel. He gave her a hopeful smile. “Can’t I join your team?”
Joanna’s face didn’t move. “No. Caleb said you have a destiny with your cousin.”
Brandon’s smile vanished. “If I help him, can I come see you then?”
Joanna turned fully toward him, her gaze locking on.
He was tall and thin, with dark hair and soft features-hardly looking like Fletcher’s future ruthless lieutenant.
Joanna’s voice dropped to a low, guttural growl that seemed to drop the temperature in the cabin. “Lister or die.”
Brandon froze. Every hair on his neck stood up. Her gaze pinned him to his seat.
“Your path is separate from mine,” she said, eyes unblinking. “If not for your destiny, I would have left you in the snow. Don’t mess with me.”
Brandon stared into the void of her eyes. The last of his childish hope evaporated. He finally understood why they called her the Demoness.
Joanna shifted the truck into gear and drove on.
“Listen, Brandon,” Joanna said, her voice serious but calmer now. “If anything happens and anyone from the Nightshade base comes here, you must be careful. The people running that place want to kidnap ability users like us and perform experiments. Whatever you do, don’t trust them. Tell your cousin to get word to me so I can have my people help. Okay?”
Brandon stared down at his hands resting in his lap. “Okay,” he said softly.
As Joanna drove through the quiet streets, Brandon couldn’t help but look up at her profile again. Despite her terrifying warning, he was still completely enraptured by her. He thought everything about her was perfect. He had dreamed of her, and in his heart, he desperately believed she was his future.
Suddenly, a cold voice cut through the silence from the back of the cabin.
“Eyes front and center,” Julian said, his low tone laced with a dangerous promise of violence.
Brandon swallowed hard and immediately ripped his eyes away from Joanna, staring straight out the windshield. If there was anyone else in her crew he truly feared, it was the Executioner. Witnessing Julian’s sheer, destructive lightning power against Carl’s gang had made him realize just how many monstrously strong fighters orbited around the Demoness. He didn’t want to be on Julian’s bad side. More than that, it made him ache to become one of them.
Eventually, they pulled up into the downtown sector, steering toward the block that Fletcher claimed. In just a single week, it was obvious her cousin had aggressively expanded his territory.
Joanna pulled the armored vehicle over right next to a massive, imposing barricade constructed from wrecked vehicles and scrap metal. She turned off the ignition, pulled the keys, and slid them into Brandon’s

This is your cousin’s place,” Joanna said, gesturing toward the fortified perimeter. “If you are smart, this will eventually be your seat of power.”
They climbed out of the truck and walked past the heavily guarded gate. Almost immediately, the fron doors of the main building swung open and Fletcher stepped outside. He always knew the exact moment anyone stepped onto his turf.
Seeing his cousin looking sharp and in total control of his expanding empire, Joanna smiled at him.
“Fletcher… your arm looks better. How have you been?” Joanna asked, her voice softening as she took him in
Fletcher did indeed look a lot better than before. He stood tall and imposing, a giant bear of a man whose presence commanded the entire courtyard.
“Hello again, little dove,” Fletcher replied, his deep voice rumbling. He offered her a wry, knowing smile. “Your team has been busy these last few days. I left them alone, and they have been really nice guests.”
Joanna caught the heavy emphasis on the word guests and smirked. He was clearly hoping they would pack up and leave sooner rather than later.
“We are pulling out of here in a day or so,” Joanna reassured him, a playful glint in her eyes. “Thank you for your hospitality.”
Fletcher smiled, visibly relieved that she understood him so well. “Just make sure to leave a good Yelp review for my town.”
She laughed, the sound bright against the bleak, winter air.
Watching them smile and banter so effortlessly at each other, Brandon felt a sudden, toxic wave of jealousy take root in his chest. How did she know his cousin so well? Why did she look at Fletcher with such ease while she treated him like an infection?
“Hello, cousin,” Brandon interrupted, his tone sharp. He would do anything to break up this cozy little
reunion.
Fletcher shifted his gaze over to Brandon, a heavily complicated look flashing across his rugged features. “Brandon. When the little dove’s team told me you were coming… to say I was surprised would be an understatement.”
Fletcher cautiously extended his hand to shake Brandon’s. Joanna watched the exchange closely, a faint stir of surprise hitting her. Was Fletcher actually nervous about his own cousin? The fierce, territory-grabbing warlord looked almost hesitant around the skinny, boyish youth.
Deciding to smooth things over, Joanna stepped in. “Fletcher, I brought him to help you secure this city. Trust me, he will become exactly what you need in the coming months.”
Fletcher nodded slowly, keeping his eyes on Brandon before motioning to one of his trusted men. “Pete here will take you to your room. Go get settled. I will be right up.”
Brandon didn’t move immediately. Instead, he turned and gave a long, lingering look to Joanna. “I will see you again soon, my Demoness,” he murmured, his voice dripping with reluctant obsession.
