Jonna activated her mental call link so the team could stay in contact. “Listen up, I am putting Jolie and Julian in the back of the horde. Me, Jake, and Allen will fight from the front.” Even though they were speaking, it sounded like a phone call in everyone’s head.
They replied, “Got it.”
Using the teleportation power of her storage space, Joanna instantly warped Jolie and Julian to the rear of the advancing horde and came back to Allen and Jake on the roof. Worried for Allen’s lack of field experience against a crowd this massive, Joanna reached into her storage space and pulled out a sleek, experimental XM250 advanced lightweight assault weapon, outfitted with high-capacity plasma-coated armor-piercing rounds, along with extra boxes of ammunition, and handed it to him.
“Ok team, let’s go.”
From their position at the rear, Julian and Jolie acted with devastating synergy. Jolie slammed her palms into the shattered concrete, channeling her plant power deep into the earth. Within seconds, a forest of massive, razor-sharp thorny vines erupted violently through the asphalt, weaving together like a wall of living barbed wire. They coiled around the backline infected, crushing bone and ripping through rotted flesh.
Before the trapped zombies could tear themselves free, Julian unleashed a blinding, thunderous arc of his rare electricity power directly into the thicket. The lightning chained fiercely through the moisture-rich vines, turning the entire rear section of the horde into a massive, crackling grid of blue energy. Smoldering ash and severed limbs flew through the air as the explosive elemental assault shattered the horde’s unified focus.
That explosive distraction bought Joanna the exact window she needed. Activating the teleportation power of her storage space, she gripped Jake and Allen, instantly warping them from the high roof down to the bloody asphalt right in front of the surging front line.
The moment her boots hit the ground, Joanna pulled her massive, curved sickle sword from her warehouse space. The black steel gleamed under the dying crimson light of sunset. “No steps back! Guard the mill!” her voice roared directly through the mental link, echoing in their minds over the deafening snarls.
The clash was titanic. The front line of the horde hit them like a freight train, but Joanna stood like an immovable rock. She spun into motion, a hurricane of lethal, enhanced physical power. Every sweep of her sickle sword cut a wide, bloody crescent through the air, shearing through armored skulls, spines, and multiple torsos in single, effortless swings.
Beside her, Jake’s eyes glowed as he weaponized the entire area. He ripped steel beams from the depot’s outer scaffolding, shredding them in mid-air into a storm of thousands of supersonic metal spikes that turned the advancing infected into swiss cheese. Allen anchored their left flank, his earth power causing the ground to erupt in jagged stone pillars that launched entire rows of zombies into the air, smashing them to pieces.
Yet, the sheer, crushing weight of the coordinated mass was relentless. From the roiling sea of decay, a group of massive, heavily mutated infected-moving with terrifying, unnatural speed-bypassed Jake’s metal storm. They slammed hard into Allen’s defensive line, shattering his earth barriers with a concussive shockwave that sent him crashing backward into the dirt. The advanced XM250 rifle spun out of his grip. Within a heartbeat, a swarm of screeching, clawing infected buried him completely beneath a mountain of snapping jaws.

“Boss! Help!” Allen’s desperate, choked scream flared through the mental link.
Seeing him seconds away from being torn to shreds, Joanna didn’t hesitate. She threw herself entirely into the jaws of death. Bracing her weight, she lunged into the thickest part of the swarm, her sickle sword blurring in a frenzied, horizontal slash that decapitated a dozen zombies at once. She dropped the blade, physically grabbing two hulking infected by their throats and using her raw strength to smash their skulls together before violently yanking Allen out from under the pile.
As she pulled Allen to his feet, a feral zombie lunged from the shadows of her blind spot. Its jaws unhinged and clamped down violently onto her exposed forearm. The teeth ripped through her heavy clothing, sinking deep and locking into her flesh.
A white-hot spike of agony shot up her arm, but Joanna didn’t even flinch. Driven by pure adrenaline, she gripped her sickle sword with her free hand and brought it down in a brutal, vertical arc, splitting the zombie’s head down to its neck. She ripped her arm free from its collapsing jaws, warm blood instantly soaking her sleeve. Without missing a single beat or uttering a sound of pain, she pushed Allen behind her, reclaimed her stance, and raised her blood-drenched blade to face the next wave.
For twenty brutal minutes, the onslaught never let up. The battlefield was a gruesome tableau of severed limbs, scorched earth, and shattered stone. Though the horde was finally thinning out, hundreds of infected still pressed forward with terrifying, mechanical coordination. If Joanna had her entire team here, clearing them would have been a simple cleanup job, but with a divided squad and an injured arm, the stubborn resistance was making her nervous.
Steeling her grip on her weapon, Joanna pivoted on her heel. She channeled her enhanced physical power into a spectacular, terrifying 360-degree full-circle swing. The heavy blade whistled through the air, decapitating fifteen zombies in a single fluid, explosive motion that sent a shower of black blood across the asphalt.
As the severed heads hit the ground, a loud roar of engines cut through the chaotic din of the battlefield. Joanna wiped the sweat and grime from her eyes and looked toward the main road. Five heavy trucks were racing directly toward the depot, their headlights cutting through the darkening twilight.
Was this trouble coming on top of the zombies? Joanna thought, her muscles tensing. She figured any sane group of survivors would see this absolute hoard of death, turn their vehicles around, and flee as fast as possible.
