Gided by RJ’s sharp telepathic directions and the echoing, frantic thunder of rifle fire, Joanna pushed the Beast to its absolute limits. The heavy tactical vehicle tore through the darkness, the headlights cutting a blinding path down the ruined avenue. Within minutes, they skidded around a final jackknifed semi-truck, and the headlights illuminated a massive discovery.

They hadn’t just stumbled into an ambush; they had driven straight into a heavily fortified industrial complex.

Sprawled across the sector was a pristine, fully operational water purification plant and a gargantuan, climate-controlled agricultural warehouse bursting with rows of towering hydroponic crops and stockpiled food pallets. This was the holy grail of the wasteland-a massive, self-sustaining lifeline. It was the exact reason the arrogant Billings siblings had stubbornly refused to leave the city, hiding out to protect a literal empire of survival resources they wanted entirely for themselves.

Right now, the vicious guard dogs they used to secure the facility’s perimeter were running completely wild.

Fletcher and Brandon’s remaining men were completely pinned down behind a row of overturned concrete barriers near the warehouse bay doors, their ammunition running dangerously low. Swarming over them was a pack of level-two mutated hounds. These weren’t normal infected dogs. They were sleek, hairless monsters with elongated limbs and razor-sharp talons. They moved like terrifying balancing masters, using the brick walls of the surrounding industrial buildings to bounce, wall-run, and leap through the air at dizzying, physics-defying speeds. One beast launched itself twenty feet from a metal catwalk, jaws snapping inches from a soldier’s face.

“Brace yourselves!” Joanna yelled over the roar of the engine.

She didn’t slam the brakes. Instead, Joanna aimed the massive grill of the Beast straight at the thickest cluster of leaping monsters. The multi-ton armored truck slammed into two of the hounds mid-air. sending them cracking violently into the concrete brickwork.

The armored doors flew open instantly. “Go! Clean them out!” Joanna ordered, her voice cutting through

the chaos.

Julian vaulted out first, his arms completely enveloped in crackling, blinding blue sheets of electricity. He unleashed a massive chain-lightning blast that arced between three hounds as they bounded along a brick wall, frying them mid-jump and sending their smoking carcasses crashing to the ground. Briggs and Kailee moved in lockstep, Briggs throwing a searing jet of white-hot fire to create a defensive perimeter while Kailee used a massive concussive air pulse to blast a leaping hound straight backward.

From the safety of the truck’s rear entrance, eleven-year-old Raven tapped the collar of her stubby-legged companion. “Alright, Titan. Show them who’s the real alpha.”

Titan the corgi trotted out onto the hood of the Beast, his chest puffed out and his tiny ears pinned back. He let out a piercing, resonant bark that seemed to vibrate through the very air. Instantly, his gravity control superpower flared to life on a massive scale.

A pack of five mutated hounds launched themselves from a high rooftop, executing a terrifying, synchronized leap aimed directly at Fletcher’s position. Mid-air, the red aura of Titan’s power snapped around them. Suddenly, their terrifying speed meant nothing. Titan aggressively inverted the gravitational pull in their localized space, trapping the beasts mid-flight. The hounds flailed helplessly in the air, completely immobilized, floating like horrific balloons. With a sharp tilt of his furry head, Titan slammed

his paws onto the hood-and the gravity reversed violently, crashing all five monsters straight down into the asphalt with a bone-shattering thud.

With the aerial threat entirely neutralized by a corgi, Joanna used her storage space teleportation to close the gap to Fletcher. She materialized right in front of his barricade just as a rogue hound managed to breach their line. Channeling her raw, strength-type power, Joanna caught the lunging beast by its upper and lower jaws, ripping them apart with a sickening crunch before discarding the carcass.

Fletcher looked up from his rifle, coughing through the smoke, a bloody scratch lining his jaw. Despite the grime and the chaos, a rugged, relieved grin broke across his face as he looked at Joanna. “Took you long enough, little dove.”

The remaining team wasted no time, using their powers to ruthlessly finish off the rest of the mutated hounds now that Titan’s gravity control had them completely locked down and floating helplessly in the air. Kailee shattered their ranks with rapid air pulses, while Jake used pieces of the surrounding metal catwalks to impale the immobilized monsters.
