Jonna laughed and shook her head at Levi’s grumbling. “You are on your own with that one, Levi. But you should really look at it differently. Instead of you training Leo, maybe it’s the other way around. He’s pushing your limits.”
Leo grinned, instantly catching her drift. He held up a very skinny arm, bending it in a dramatic, pure flex motion. “Yeah, Commander Levi! I am training you!”
Levi rolled his eyes hard at Leo’s antics, but Joanna caught the sudden spark that ignited in the older man’s eyes. The competitive dig had clearly struck a chord. Joanna could tell right then that the future training sessions between these two were going to get incredibly intense.
The next few days passed in a blur of activity. Joanna quickly approved structural plans to expand the lab’s square footage within the subarctic base, providing the necessary space for Michelle and Warren’s new assistants to scale up production.
However, she kept tight control over the information. Until she dealt with her enemies and rooted out the hidden moles, she was keeping a lid on the virobane vaccine’s existence. Security was paramount, so she decided to take only a selective amount of vials with her.
Her destination was a meeting with the Glacier and Fletcher crews. Handing over the initial doses would help cement a powerful, unbreakable alliance with them. Furthermore, because she trusted their positioning, they could easily act as safe future go-betweens whenever she was ready to start sales of the vaccine to the wider world.
Finally, the day arrived for Joanna to leave. The heavy winter snowfall had finally stopped. Even though it would take months for the massive accumulation of ice and snow to completely melt, Joanna knew she had to prepare for the next impending disaster: earthquakes.
In her precognitive dreams, devastating earthquakes had ravaged the landscape. Many survivors in those visions believed the tremors were directly tied to the sudden ice that now covered the earth. While tectonic plate movements remain the root driver of earthquakes, massive surface loads-such as accumulated snow, heavy rain, or melting glaciers-act as secondary triggers that can hasten when a fault line slips. The sudden shifting weight of the melting ice sheet was bound to trigger massive seismic activity.
Thanks to the warnings in her dreams, Joanna already had her preventative plans firmly in place. A comprehensive system to drain the snowmelt away from the subarctic base had already been built directly into the structure. Multiple forms of advanced drainage systems were ready to activate, ensuring that the millions of gallons of melting water would run safely away from the base foundations, preventing soil erosion and minimizing structural damage when the ground finally began to shake.
That morning, Joanna and her crew were ready. She decided to leave behind Jolie, Allen, Raven, Titan, and Jake to keep the base developing and moving operations along smoothly.
Before heading out, she gathered them together to speak. “I am not sure how long this will take, but I will come back as soon as I can. Make sure to not let anyone into the base before I get back.”
Jake stepped forward and gave her a brief hug. “We know, Boss. Take care of yourself while you are gone. We will miss you!”
Joanna looked at Julian, Briggs, Kailee, RJ, Will, and Caleb. She pulled all of them into her pocket space, securing her crew safely inside before disappearing to teleport herself to Westridge.

She strolled casually up to the building and immediately spotted six guards stationed outside. They caught sight of her approach and snapped to attention. When she was twenty feet away, one of the guards shot a warning fireball that slammed right into the ground at her feet.
“State your business,” the guard growled.
Joanna held out her hands calmly to show she wasn’t drawing a weapon, speaking in a clear, steady voice through her mask. “Tell Fletcher that Little Dove is here.”
Hearing the name, one of the guards turned instantly and walked inside to report the arrival. The guard who had thrown the fireball kept his eyes locked on her, saying nothing as the tense silence stretched between them. A few minutes later, the first guard returned and gestured for her to follow, leading her inside the warmth of the facility.
The guard led Joanna onto the first floor of the building. This place used to be a hotel, but a massive amount of renovation work had been done since Joanna had last visited,
