Chapter 310 Snow Clinging To His Boots
one other person knew Joanna and her group would be on that exact block today. Brad.

She stared intently at him, her mind racing as she calculated the pieces of the puzzle. What was his end game? Her eyes dropped to his feet, noticing the fresh snow still clinging to his boots. He hadn’t just been running around the building; he had been outside in the cold right before they came back.
She decided to let it go for now. Playing her hand too early would ruin the trap.
“I have the level 2 zombie cores and some supplies we scavenged,” Joanna said, her voice deceptively calm. “What can we trade for?”
Brad snatched the bag right out of her hand, an ugly sneer twisting his sweaty face. “You better have what you owe me first, girl.”
Brad stared hard at everything. Then he muttered, “This is actually pretty impressive.”
He pulled up two crates from the floor and heavy-thudded them onto the counter. “All of this can get you two items from this crate and six items from this one.”
Joanna paused at the first crate she was going to select the two items from. It was packed with medical supplies and weapons. Her eyes scanned the options, but not really needing any of this. She picked out some pain killers and a large knife.
The other crate held a random assortment of day-to-day necessities: frozen bread, canned food, individual cigarettes, a lighter, and coal. Needing to maximize their survival resources, she reached in and grabbed some canned food, coal and the lighter, completing her allowance of six items.
Brad watched her closely as she gathered her new gear, his eyes locked onto her.
Brad asked, “Are those painkillers for your team?”
Joanna nodded, keeping her face a perfect mask while internally rolling her eyes. Yeah, he was definitely the one watching us. The timing was too perfect, and the nervous sweat on his brow practically screamed guilt. Her mind immediately began calculating the connections. Did Fletcher send him?
Brad didn’t wait for her to elaborate. He slid the crates back under the counter and leaned forward, his demeanor shifting back to his usual demanding self.
“Tomorrow,” Brad continued, his voice dropping into a stern command, “make sure you and your team are here before 8:30 AM.”
Joanna gave a curt nod, cutting the conversation short before Brad could offer any more cryptic deadlines. Along with the painkillers, the large knife, the canned food, and the lighter, she also grabbed some coal from the second crate, completing her haul. She scooped up the items and turned on her heel, leaving the sweating man behind.
She made her way back up the concrete stairwell, her mind turning over the strict 8:30 AM meetup time Brad had demanded and his likely connection to Fletcher. As she neared the fourth floor, she heard the heavy sliding of locks. RJ removed the door’s barriers, pulling the heavy barricades back just as Joanna approached.

RJ opened the door, her expression a mix of relief and urgency. “Joanna,” she said quickly, stepping aside to let her in. “Caleb is awake.”
Joanna walked into the room, and Caleb looked up at her with a small smile playing on his lips. “Looks like the demoness doesn’t like hiding her strength,” he remarked, his voice smooth despite just coming out of a deep meditation.
Joanna rolled her eyes, offering no reply to the jab. Time was wasting, and she wasn’t about to take any chances with Brad or anyone else poking around their floor…
She turned on her heel, grabbed a heavy wooden chair, and shoved it firmly under the door handle before turning the deadbolt. With the room secure, she didn’t say a word. She stepped forward, gripped both Caleb and RJ by the shoulders, and channelled her energy. With a sharp pull, she threw both of them into her pocket storage space along with herself.
The cold apartment vanished, and the ambient, soothing warmth of the space washed over them instantly.
Inside, Joanna didn’t find them at the spring; instead, she saw everyone gathered in the villa. Will was leaning back on the living room couch, his hands clamped tightly over his head, while the rest of the team watched him from a safe distance over by the kitchen counter.
Joanna frowned, her maternal and commander instincts instantly taking over as she moved toward him. Before she could take three steps, Julian grabbed her arm and yanked her behind his tall frame.
