Rise of the Banished She-Wolf (Evelyn) novel Chapter 192

Evelyn

The next afternoon, I brought Kate to Felix for a followup exam to ensure yesterday’s events hadn’t harmed the baby. I carefully checked her vitals one more time, relieved to see the stability in her readings.

Everything’s there, as you requested, Felix said professionally, though I could sense his lingering disapproval at my helping Kate.

I scanned the reports meticulously, nodding as I absorbed the information. The silver allergic reaction has completely stabilized, I confirmed, showing Kate the relevant charts. All three fetuses have strong, regular heartbeats.

Kate’s hand trembled slightly as she reached for the reports. What does this mean for us?she whispered, her eyes glistening with tears.

It means you’re out of immediate danger,I explained, flipping through the pages.

Felix cleared his throat. Here’s the medicine I prepared for you. Take one dose every two weeks. He set down a small wooden box with vials of shimmering liquid. And stay calm during full moonsno getting worked up.

Kate nodded, clutching the box like a lifeline. Thank you,she murmured. After everything I’ve doneI don’t deserve your help.

I maintained my professional demeanor despite our complicated history. I’ve arranged for your transfer to a werewolf community in Boston tomorrow,I

continued, handing her the transfer documents. There’s a specialized obstetrician there who works exclusively with complex werewolf pregnancies. I’ve also

arranged for the nursing staff who previously cared for you to accompany you.

LI don’t know how to repay you,Kate’s voice broke.

Take care of those babies. That’s repayment enough.I gathered my belongings with a definitive movement. The transfer papers are ready. You’ll leave first

thing tomorrow.

Felix excused himself, leaving us alone in the room. Kate’s eyes held a vulnerability I’d rarely seen before our recent reconciliation. Will

sometimes?

youwill you visit

The question caught me off guard. After years of animosity, the idea of voluntarily seeing Kate seemed strange. Yet something had shifted between us since

I’d helped her.

Let’s see how things go,I replied noncommittally. Focus on your health and the babies first.

As I walked out of the hospital room, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I paused in the hallway, fishing it out and looking at the screen. A text from Shawn.

[To express my sincere apologies, I’d like to invite you and Devon to dinner tonight. I’ve also invited Aileen and Lucas. Location: Jack’s Blue Moon Restaurant, 8 PM.]

I raised an eyebrow in surprise. Shawn inviting Devon? That was unexpected, especially after their testosteronefueled brawl at Sterling Mansion.

Leaning against the corridor wall, I contemplated my response. Shawn had saved my life when I escaped the island three years ago. He had given me shelter when I had nowhere to go. Devon needed to understand that connectionnot as a romantic link, but as the debt of gratitude I owed someone who had helped me during my darkest time.

Yet Devon’s possessiveness had only intensified since we’d become closer. The thought made my cheeks flush with a mixture of frustration and something else entirelya warm feeling of belonging that I wasn’t quite used to yet.

Chapter 192

I headed toward the hospital parking lot, where Devon would be picking me up soon. The afternoon air carried the scent of approaching rain, typical Seattle weather. As I waited near the entrance, I thought about how to broach the subject of Shawn’s invitation with Devon,

The two men who had each protected me in different chapters of my life, now at odds with each other. Devon needed to understand that my history with Shawn was important but entirely different from what we shared. And Shawn needed to accept that Devon was my Alpha, my mate, my future.

A sudden chill ran down my spine as I was about to text Shawn back. The fine hairs on my arms stood on end, my wolf senses flaring in alarm. Someone was

watching me.

I forced myself to remain casual, pretending to adjust my hair while scanning the area. My peripheral vision caught movement in a black sedan parked across the lot, about fifty yards away. The windows were tinted, but I could make out a shadowy figure inside, unmistakably focused in my direction.

My heartbeat quickened, but I maintained my outward calm. Casually, I raised my phone as if taking a selfie, but actually capturing a shot of the suspicious

vehicle.

I immediately sent it to Aiden with a brief message: [Run this plate. Someone’s tailing me at Seattle General.]

Years of being hunted had taught me to trust my instincts. I continued to wait for Devon, all senses now on high alert, dividing my attention between watching for Devon’s arrival and monitoring the black sedan without appearing to do so.

Relief washed over me when Devon’s sleek black SUV pulled into the parking lot. I walked toward it with measured steps, fighting the urge to run. As I slipped into the passenger seat, the familiar scent of pine and something uniquely Devon enveloped me, instantly making me feel safer.

Perfect timing,I said, leaning over to kiss his cheek.

Devon’s blue eyes studied my face, immediately sensing something was off. How’s Kate doing?he asked, keeping his tone casual while his gaze remained

sharp.

I’ve arranged for her transfer to Boston tomorrow,I said, buckling my seatbelt. She’ll be away from the drama here, with proper medical care for her

condition.

Devon reached across to brush a strand of hair from my face. You always show compassion, even to those who’ve hurt you.His voice was admiration. It’s one of the many things I love about you.
