After Alicia finished treating the villagers who came for medical help, she and Hannah pitched in to tidy up the living room.

The lady tried to wave them off, saying they didn’t need to bother with the cleaning.

But Alicia and Hannah insisted they’d made a promise and wanted to see it through.

The lady didn’t push it after that.

Then she went off to get some ingredients ready for them.

Meanwhile, the villagers Alicia had just treated went home and soon everyone showed up with gifts of food and local treats for her.

No matter how much Alicia tried to refuse, the villagers just wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Worried Alicia might not accept, some just dropped the goodies and dashed off before she could say anything.

Left with no other option, Alicia and Hannah could only accept it all.

So when they finally left the lady’s house, each of them was carrying a huge basket overflowing with vegetables, meat, fruit, and all kinds of local specialties.

Meanwhile.

Caleb and the others went ahead and picked peaches from the hostess’s yard.

Then she brought them into the kitchen and let them choose whatever ingredients they wanted.

Jett was the first to point at a block of tofu and a bunch of scallions. “We’ll take the tofu and scallions-Nicolas and the others are crazy about these.”

Nicolas’s face turned dark. “Honestly, you’re way more tolerable when you just keep quiet.”

When Jett barely spoke before, everyone thought it was blissfully quiet and comfortable.

Sure enough, the moment he opens his mouth, nothing good ever comes out.

Jett rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I know I’m pretty great, but I’m just not into guys, so you really don’t have to worry about liking

me.”

He pointed at Nicole next to him. “Nicole’s the one you should be interested in.

“She even got hurt earlier trying to catch peaches for you, so tonight, you’re on veggie-washing duty.

“You two can handle dinner together in the kitchen.”

Then he winked at Nicole, looking all proud of himself for giving them some alone time.

Nicole was speechless.

‘Seriously, I could just punch him right now, she grumbled inwardly.

Even if he wanted to set her up with Nicolas, did he have to be so freaking obvious about it?

Then Caleb grabbed a basket, rounded up the others, and headed back to their place.

As luck would have it, both groups got back to the yard at almost the same time.

When they saw Alicia and the others each lugging a giant basket stuffed with veggies, meat, fruit, and all sorts of local goodies, the four of them were floored.

Caleb couldn’t help but ask, “How did you guys manage to score so much food?”

Landon said proudly, “Alicia treated the villagers, and they just wouldn’t take no for an answer-they practically forced all

this on us.”

Then he glanced at Caleb’s basket. “So you guys are really making scallion tofu to prove nothing’s going on between you two, huh?”

He clicked his tongue twice. “Way to make it look even more suspicious.”

Caleb was speechless. ‘I really shouldn’t have opened my mouth,’ he thought.

Jett grinned. “Let’s just pretend we didn’t notice, thanks!”

Landon gave him a knowing look and made a zipping-his-lips gesture.

The two of them kept bantering back and forth, and it was enough to make Nicolas want to lose his mind.

He shot Jett a cold glare. “What nonsense are you two spouting? Can you stop being such shit-stirrers?”

Landon raised an eyebrow. “We didn’t even name names, but you’re the one jumping in-talk about guilty conscience.”

Jett nodded in agreement. “Exactly!”

Nicolas just wanted to throw the two of them out-every time he tried to explain, things just got messier.

He couldn’t help but glance at Alicia.

To his surprise, she looked like she was just watching a show, and that made Nicolas feel even more absurd about the whole

situation.

Caleb called out, “Let’s go, time to get cooking inside.”

With that, the two teams split up and headed to their own kitchens.

One kitchen was downstairs, the other upstairs, and each team kept their own livestream running.

Hannah was at the stove, cooking up a storm, while the other three handled the prep-washing and chopping all the ingredients.

The four of them kept up a lively banter, laughing and joking around, and the whole place was filled with a cheerful, laid-

back vibe.

After the four of them walked into the kitchen, Jett wasted no time-he threw an arm around Caleb as soon as Caleb set down the basket and hauled him right back out.

That left just Nicole and Nicolas alone in the kitchen.

Nicolas tried to slip out too.

But Nicole looked over at him and said, “Nicolas, could you help me wash the veggies?”

Nicolas didn’t want to deal with her, so he just said flatly, “I don’t know how.”

Nicole was stumped. “Just rinse them with water.”

Nicolas’s impatience showed. “I said I don’t know how.

“It’s not much, just wash and cook it yourself.

“I’d just mess things up if I stuck around.”

With that, he turned and strode out of the kitchen.

This time, he made it crystal clear he wanted nothing to do with Nicole.

He hated being manipulated, and the way Nicole kept forcing things just made him even more fed up.

Nicolas used to think Nicole was just putting on an act-he never realized she had so many tricks up her sleeve.

Now that he’d seen through her, he was going to steer clear of her from now on.

He called out, “Hey, Nicole’s crying again. You guys go deal with her.”

As he left, he could hear Nicole sobbing inside.

He was so fed up with her, there was no way he’d go back to comfort her.

Who does she think I am, her personal therapist? I’m not here to babysit anyone, Nicolas thought.

When Caleb heard Nicolas say that, he couldn’t help but frown. “Why is she crying again?”

‘Is this ever going to end?

‘She cries at the drop of a hat-who’s got the energy to keep comforting her every time?’ he grumbled inwardly.

After a moment, he said, “I need to hit the bathroom.

“Jett, you go check on her.”

Then he slipped out before anyone could stop him.

‘No way am I dealing with her tears again-I’m seriously out, he thought.

Even he was getting sick of his stepsister Nicole bawling all the time.

Seeing Caleb bail, Nicolas was right behind him. “Me too, gotta go,” he said, making his own escape.

But instead of running off himself, he headed straight into the kitchen.

He found Nicole squatting on the floor, hugging her knees and crying.

He asked, “Why are you crying again, Nicole?

“Come on, let’s just cook already-we’re all starving.”

Then he teased, “If you’re gonna cry, at least wait till they’re all back to see it.”

Nicole looked up at Jett, tears in her eyes, and honestly, she was so pissed she could’ve socked him right then.
