At the hospital.

Leo’d been having trouble sleeping for a while now, and with all this going on, rest was out of the question

He kept a close watch on every new development.

When Kevin called to tell him that Nicolas was now infertile, his first thought was, “Trouble is coming Nicole’s fater couldn’t help but worry.

Not long after, the major shareholder who’s always butting heads with him suddenly sent him a message.

On the other hand, he was pissed at Nicolas’s mother for totally disrespecting the Hammond family. Couldn’t she just talk things out like a normal person? Did she really have to go over there and throw punches? he furned

He couldn’t hold back and called Kevin to chew him out, then told him to go check on Mavis at the hotel

Kevin felt totally wronged and couldn’t help but talk back. “Dad, this whole mess was caused by Mavis and her daughter Why are you taking it out on me?

Wicolas is infertile because of Nicole. Can’t Mrs. Moore at least vent her anger a little?

I’m just the junior here. It’s not my place to get involved in my stepmom’s mess.

That just showed how pissed off he was.

This whole mess was already dragging the Hammond family down, and he hadn’t even gotten around to blaming Nicole and her mom yet.

After the call, Austin asked, “Dad wants you to go look after Mavis?

Kevin replied, “Not just me-he wants all three of us to go.

Austin and Caleb both looked pretty grim.

Diana was still raging. If they went over there now, they might end up getting smacked too.

There was no way he was going to that hotel.

Alicia, who hadn’t left yet, chimed in, “You know what they say-where there’s a stepmom, there’s a stepdad. That’s just how it’s always been.

“Looks like you guys are step-sons now too.”

‘Let Dad keep covering for Mavis and her daughter. The sooner the family falls apart, the better, Alicia thought to herself.

The three brothers shot Alicia a look, not missing the gloating smirk in her eyes.

All three of them sighed in frustration. “You really do have it all figured out,” Kevin said.

Alicia snorted. “Took you guys long enough to catch on.”

Seeing that Nicolas was about to wake up, Alicia didn’t want to talk to him.

She put away the vial of Nicolas’s blood she’d just collected.

She turned to Nicolas’s father and said, “Mr. Moore, Nicolas is out of danger now, so I don’t need to stay any longer.”

Nicolas’s father said, “Thank you so much for coming all this way. We won’t forget this favor.”

Alicia nodded. “Then we’ll be going.”

She skipped the pleasantries-she and Nicolas had nothing to do with each other anymore. She’d come all this way to help him, so it was only right that the Moore family owed her one.

Plus, she’d come here for a reason, and now she’d gotten the confirmation she wanted.

Once she got back and ran some tests on Nicolas’s blood, maybe she’d discover something new.

Nicolas’s father exchanged a few more pleasantries, then had his assistant walk Alicia and Jason out.

The Hammond brothers wanted to catch up with Alicia for a quick chat, but Nicolas’s father called them back.

Nicolas’s father asked with a stern face, “How is the Hammond family going to take responsibility for this?”

Kevin felt helpless. He knew the Moore family wouldn’t just let it slide.

He thought for a moment and replied, “We’ll help find whoever cooked up that drug and do whatever we can to help Nicolas get better.”

‘What else can we do?’ Kevin thought to himself.

Nicolas’s father had already prepared for the worst-case scenario. “What if you guys can’t track down the culprit, or if Nicolas stays like this?”

Kevin said, “Something this big is way out of my league. You’ll have to talk to my dad about it.”

With the Moore family being so aggressive, the best they could hope for was the Hammond family having to make some concessions and pay up.

Worst case? The two families would fall out completely, and the Moores would come after the Hammonds with everything they had.

But it all came down to one thing-would the Hammonds cover for Nicole or not?

Either way, whether it was coughing up compensation or protecting Nicole, none of that was his call to make.

Nicolas’s father knew Kevin wasn’t really in a position to take responsibility-he just wanted to make sure the Hammonds understood the Moores weren’t backing down.

“Tell your dad this: unless the Hammond family gives us a real answer, any cooperation between our families is off the table,” he said coldly.

He and his wife were really close, and he wasn’t the type to mess around.

He didn’t have any mistresses or illegitimate kids-Nicolas was his only child.

He’d always spoiled his son rotten. If he hadn’t, he never would’ve let Nicolas go off and play around in showbiz.

Now that his son was left unable to have kids, no matter how close their families used to be, there was no way he could just let this slide.

If the Hammond family hadn’t spoiled and indulged Nicole, how could a stepdaughter like her have ever dared to scheme against his son?

If the Hammond family didn’t give him a proper explanation, he wouldn’t hesitate to cut ties with them.

After all, if his son couldn’t have kids, who would take over the Moore Group in the future?

Just thinking about it made his heart ache.

Kevin could understand why the Moore family was so pissed.

After roughing Mavis up, Nicolas’s mother finally felt a bit of relief.

She left her bodyguards to keep an eye on Mavis and headed back to the hospital.

Not long after Diana returned, Nicolas woke up.

Even though he seemed unconscious, he was actually aware the whole time.

He could feel his body on the verge of bursting apart, and then Alicia came in to treat him.

He could vaguely catch snippets of Alicia talking with his parents.

When he opened his eyes, his first words were, “Where’s Ally?”

Nicolas’s mother rushed over as soon as she saw him wake up. “Alicia’s already left.”

Seeing how he reacted, she could tell he still cared about Alicia.

She couldn’t help but hate Nicole even more. If it hadn’t been for that spiteful woman, her son wouldn’t have fallen out with Alicia, and he wouldn’t be unable to have kids now.

She asked with concern, “Are you feeling any better?”

Nicolas replied weakly, “Yeah, I’m doing better. Just feel kind of limp all over.”

He asked, “Mom, did I hear Alicia say I won’t ever be able to have kids?”

His mother’s eyes were red, her voice trembling as she replied, “Yes, the drug you were given did serious damage.”

Nicolas felt his heart drop. ‘Damn, it’s really true. I can’t have kids anymore, he thought.

He never really cared much about having kids anyway-he was still young, and the whole idea of being a dad had never even crossed his mind.

But not being able to have kids just made it clear-things were really over between him and Alicia now.

‘Who’s going to take over the Moore Group in the future?’ he wondered.

And he had no idea what this infertility would mean for his health down the line.

Nicolas’s mother let out a sigh of relief. “Good thing you didn’t get caught up in Nicole’s plot. If you had, you wouldn’t just be infertile-you’d be bedridden for the rest of your days.”

These days, a lot of normal folks just don’t have any luck with kids, no matter how hard they try.

So if her son couldn’t have kids, so be it. Worst case, they could always take in a child from another branch of the Moore family.

She and her husband were still in their forties-if it really came down to it, they could just have another kid themselves to inherit the family business.

Honestly, she cared way more about her son’s health in the long run than whether he could have kids or not.

She felt both relieved and terrified-thank goodness her son managed to keep his wits about him and didn’t lose control.

If he’d actually gotten involved with Nicole, his whole future would’ve been completely destroyed.

If that had happened, she might’ve really lost it and wanted to take Nicole out herself.

Nicolas was feeling a lingering fear too, now that he thought about it.

Thank God he never liked Nicole. Back then, he’d thought that if he’d ever touched her, there’d be zero chance of him and Alicia ever getting back together.

So even though he was suffering and tempted to go for Nicole, he gritted his teeth and forced himself to hold back. Nicolas’s eyes went steely cold. “Mom, there’s no way I’m letting this go. Nicole is going to pay, one way or another.”

If Nicole dared to mess with him like that, she’d better be ready to pay the price.

Nicolas’s mother nodded. “Damn right.”

Even if her son hadn’t said a word, she’d never let Nicole and her mother walk away unscathed.
