Chapter 140

Mavis never saw this coming.

Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed, “Honey, we’ve been together for so many years. Can you really just walk away from all that?”

She honestly couldn’t imagine her life without him.

But Leo just stared at her, his face cold and expressionless. “People move on all the time. Nothing is truly irreplaceable.

“Go home and get ready. I’m divorcing you, no matter what.”

Once he made a decision, that was it-he never looked back.

Mavis had clawed her way up to become Mrs. Hammond-there’s no way she’d give that up without a fight.

“No! I won’t get divorced.”

She reached out, trying to cling to him, desperate not to lose him.

But Leo just stood up and stepped back, out of her grasp. “There’s no point in dragging this out.

“Just go. And don’t ever show up at the office again.

“I’ll bring the divorce papers home for you to sign tomorrow.”

Mavis shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “No, I’m staying right here.”

If she left now, she’d lose any chance to make things right.

Leo frowned at her. “Fine, then I’ll leave.”

She’s way too old to be sobbing like this, makeup all smeared-he couldn’t even stand to look at her.

With that, he strode out of the office from the other side, not even looking back.

He turned to his secretary. “Have Mavis taken back to the Hammond residence later.”

The secretary noticed how Leo had stopped calling her “Mrs. Hammond” and just said “Mavis” now-he knew she was in deep trouble this time.

But he didn’t dare say a word in her defense. “Yes, sir.”

Mavis was left reeling-she never imagined Leo would just abandon her like that.

All these years, she was sure he had feelings for her; she could feel it in her bones.

She thought her devoted attention and wholehearted love would make him need her, that he couldn’t live without her.

But now, he was cutting her off so ruthlessly-it was something she never thought possible.

By the time she snapped out of it and ran after him, he was already gone.

Mavis turned to the secretary, tears streaming down her face. “He wants a divorce. What do I do now?”

The secretary’s face darkened. “Mrs. Hammond, this is between you and Mr. Hammond. I’m not in a position to give you advice.”

They were still at the office, and there were cameras in the hallway.

Mavis was talking to him like they were old friends, hoping he’d help her out, but he wouldn’t dare get involved.

He kept his tone strictly professional and motioned for her to come along. “Mrs. Hammond, Mr. Hammond asked me to take you back to the Hammond residence. This way, please.”

Mavis snapped out of it and nodded. “Alright.”

What they didn’t know was that Leo had already asked the surveillance team to send him the footage.

After watching it, he was sure-there was definitely something going on behind his back between his secretary and Mavis.

But he doubted Mavis could actually convince his secretary to turn on him.

Now, the real question was-who was really pulling the strings behind all this?

Instead of heading back to the villa, Leo drove out to a secluded estate in the suburbs.

This was the estate his late wife had bought, and it had a huge greenhouse on the grounds.

The greenhouse at home had been renovated, but this one was still exactly the way it used to be.

He’d always made sure it stayed just like she left it, and he’d never told Mavis about it.

He walked into the greenhouse and settled into the rocking chair his late wife always loved. Only here could he finally let his guard down and feel himself unwind.

Whenever life got too heavy, this was the one place where he could actually feel at peace, even if just for a little while.

Mavis didn’t need the secretary to escort her-her daughter was still waiting for her out in the parking lot.

The secretary didn’t want to stick around either, so he made sure she got to her car and then quickly left.

Once he was out of the parking lot, he pulled out a burner phone and fired off a message.

Nicole took one look at her mom’s swollen, tear-stained eyes and the fact that the secretary had to walk her down, and she just knew-her stepdad hadn’t forgiven her, not a chance.

As soon as they got in the car, Nicole couldn’t hold back anymore. “Mom, what did Dad say?” she asked, her voice full of

worry.

Mavis was still sobbing as she recounted everything that went down with Leo, barely able to get the words out.

Nicole’s expression turned grim. “He’s actually going to divorce you?” she said, disbelief written all over her face.

“So what do we do now? Are you really going to let this happen?” Nicole pressed, anxiety bubbling up inside her.

Mavis sobbed, “Of course I don’t want a divorce, but he’s already made up his mind. He’s not the type to change his mind.”

She knew exactly what kind of man he was, which only made her panic even more.

“I don’t even know what we’re supposed to do now.

“I’ve loved him for so many years. I just can’t live without him,” she cried, her heart aching with every word.

Just thinking about how cold and heartless he’d been made her heart ache.

Nicole wasn’t about to walk away from the Hammond family either.

Her three stepbrothers had been acting super distant lately, and honestly, she couldn’t even tell if they’d have her back.

Still, she had to give it a shot, no matter what.

She tried calling all three, but none of them answered.

Typical, Nicole thought bitterly. ‘I knew I couldn’t count on those guys.

The Delaney brothers had already blocked her-there was no way she could reach them now.

As for Jett, the Kingsley family had no say in Hammond family affairs.

After weighing all her options, Nicole knew she had no choice but to call her fiancé, Victor.

Victor really didn’t see this coming-he never thought Leo would actually go through with a divorce.

He never cared for Nicole at all.

The only reason he agreed to get engaged was because that miracle doctor had treated his illness, and he also wanted to use the Hammond Group for his own benefit.

If Nicole wasn’t the Hammond heiress, what would he even be sticking around for?

Otherwise, he’d just be a total joke in their social circle.

Sure, the Farrell family had business ties with the Hammond family, but when it came to marriage, they had zero influence over Leo.

Victor thought for a moment, then said, “There’s actually someone who might be able to help you.”

Nicole asked, “Who?”

Victor didn’t beat around the bush. “That miracle doctor. I’ve noticed he really looks out for you, and he seems pretty protective.

“Why don’t you try asking him for help?”

Right now, this was the only card they had left to play-and it was the perfect chance to see if that miracle doctor would really stand up for Nicole.

If he did, Nicole would still be his fiancée.

But if he didn’t, Victor would just have to let her go.

Nicole was completely lost, but hearing Victor’s words was like clutching at straws. “Okay, I’ll go ask him for help.”

That miracle doctor knew all sorts of powerful people-even her stepdad and fiancé were hoping he’d pull some strings for

them.

If he was willing to help out, there was a good shot her stepdad might actually reconsider.

So Nicole reached out to the miracle doctor.

She’d been getting pretty close to him lately, so she could just call him directly.

The miracle doctor picked up right away.

After hearing Nicole’s plea, he paused for a moment before saying, “Let’s meet up. It’s not something we can really talk about over the phone.”

Nicole let out a sigh of relief. “Can I bring my mom with me?”

There was a brief pause on the other end before he replied, “Alright.”

Nicole hung up and drove straight to the spot they’d agreed on.

Alicia was poring over the test results from the miracle doctor’s blood.

When she saw the blood type pop up, she was taken aback-it was totally unexpected.

It was exactly the same as hers.

Her imagination started running wild, all sorts of possibilities swirling in her mind.

She remembered the info her mentor had helped her look into.

The miracle doctor really did come from a hidden family of traditional medicine practitioners, but he wasn’t actually their biological child.

Rumor had it, they found him as a baby and took him in.

Everyone just knew him as the miracle doctor, and the only thing people knew was his last name-Gibson.

But her mentor had managed to dig up his real name-Julian Gibson.

From what she’d found out, Mavis had dragged the miracle doctor to the hotel because he reminded her of how Leo looked back when he was young,

She’d always thought it was just a coincidence, but now, with the same blood type, his name, and everything he’d done, Alicia couldn’t shake the feeling that something was up.

‘Could Julian Gibson really have some kind of connection to the Hammond family?’ Alicia wondered, her mind spinning with
