Marley, of course, wasn’t going to oppose their benefactor. He instructed someone to turn on the large TV in the front of the car and streamed the latest episode of Radiance: The Idol Journey.
Alicia turned off her tablet and put away her headphones. Everyone started watching.
This was the round where 48 contestants were cut down to 32, and it wasn’t a live broadcast but a recorded and edited version.
So, some contestants stood out, while others didn’t get as much screen time. Several popular contestants had a lot of footage dedicated to them.
For once, the vibe in the van was actually chill. Maxwell and Nicolas kept trying to engage Alicia in conversation, asking her what she thought of a contestant’s singing or another contestant’s dancing.
Alicia didn’t want to engage with them. But since they were filming a variety show and the questions weren’t personal, she answered anyway. Otherwise, it would seem like she was picking fights rather than being straightforward, which could lead to her being disliked.
Plus, chatting like this put the contestants they mentioned in the spotlight a little more.If she was going to help, she should take it seriously.
Even though she wasn’t a trainee or an idol participating in a variety show to debut, she knew that the path wasn’t easy-it took a lot of sweat and tears.
Alicia didn’t say much, though. When Maxwell and Nicolas asked, she only answered with a few words, commenting on the contestants’ strengths and weaknesses.
Nicole, of course, didn’t want the cameras focusing on Alicia for too long. So, she spoke up to give her own opinions, eagerly engaging with Maxwell and Nicolas to talk about the contestants.
Nicole’s focus, though, was always on the popular contestants, and she made sure to give them all glowing reviews. She wasn’t going to openly offend any of the trainees’ fans. Praising the popular contestants would win her favor with their fanbases.
Although Maxwell and Nicolas were more interested in talking to Alicia, they didn’t want to offend Nicole. They weren’t about to make Nicole cry.
So, for the most part, it was just Nicole, Maxwell and Nicolas talking. By now, even Simon and Hannah had noticed there was definitely something going on between these three and Alicia. Although Nicole wasn’t being too obvious, Simon and Hannah could still see it.
Whenever Nicolas or Maxwell paid more attention to Alicia, Nicole would quickly steer the conversation back to herself.
At the same time, Simon and Hannah had realized that Nicole wasn’t as innocent and harmless as the persona she had portrayed. In fact, she was quite calculating.
Both Simon and Hannah thought that when dealing with Nicole in the future, they would need to be extra careful.
Interestingly, they found themselves liking Alicia more, even though she was being labeled as a “bully” in LUMIA, with a bad temper and a tendency to bully people.
To Simon and Hannah, Alicia came across as more genuine because he didn’t try to hide her preferences or be anything she wasn’t. Alicia’s straightforward and poised style made her seem much less temperamental or difficult than people thought.

Since Simon and Hannah often had to deal with drama and scheming, they naturally preferred someone like Alicia.
Their impression of Darren was the same. Though they hadn’t known him long, they could tell he was nothing like the rumors painted him to be.
As for Felicity, Simon and Hannah thought that if she didn’t tone it down after this variety show, her reputation and popularity would definitely take a hit. They found her hard to like.
Simon and Hannah thought, ‘No wonder they say live broadcasts are like a mirror that reflects the truth. It’s only the first day of the show, and it’s already obvious.’
Felicity, however, thought of herself as very professional, especially when it came to singing and dancing. She wanted to get more screen time on the livestream. So, she started commenting on other people, pointing out where they were off-key or didn’t perform the choreography well.
Felicity didn’t hold back, even going so far as to bluntly say things like, “His singing is terrible” or “His dancing is awful.” But no one in the car agreed with her, and yet she didn’t stop.
Alicia just found it annoying. She couldn’t deny that the people Felicity had mentioned did have some flaws, but it wasn’t as bad as Felicity made it seem. The key point was that Alicia could tell that these people had been working hard to improve.
Felicity’s comments, filled with criticism and what she considered professional insight, were likely to make the audience form a biased opinion. After that, when they saw the contestants on stage, they might think their performances had many flaws.
Alicia thought, “This kind of behavior isn’t right. Everyone deserves the chance and time to grow.
After watching another dance performance, Alicia spoke up about one of the trainees who stood out the most to her, “Spencer Young showed a lot of presence on this stage.”
Alicia was also trying to steer the conversation away from Felicity, hoping Felicity would stop nitpicking.
But before Alicia could continue, Felicity immediately disagreed, “Spencer may be the only one in his group who’s even barely passable, but his flaws are so obvious, like-”
Felicity was used to speaking this way in the group, always looking for others’ shortcomings. Especially since Alicia had just given Spencer a compliment Spencer, Felicity felt it was even more necessary to point out his flaws and shortcomings.
Felicity thought that by doing this, she could show everyone that Alicia wasn’t professional at all.
To make herself seem more like an expert, Felicity not only listed Spencer’s faults but also suggested how he could improve. She felt quite pleased with her own expertise.
Alicia couldn’t hold back this time. She turned to her and snapped, “Isn’t the whole point of this debut competition to see trainees working hard to improve with every stage performance? You only see Spencer’s flaws, but don’t you see his effort
“I just happened to watch his last performance video, and comparing it, I can tell he’s improved a lot this time. Can’t you focus on their strengths for once, instead of just nitpicking their problems?”
Alicia then questioned, “They’re all singing live and dancing that intense routine, but Spencer’s breath control stayed steady the whole time. Did you even notice that?”
Felicity, clearly irritated, shot back, “Spencer has problems, and I can’t point them out? I’m a professional when it comes to singing and dancing. By pointing out their flaws, I can help them improve”
Felicity added, with a pointed tone, “But why do you always end up supporting these mediocre contestants?” Felicity subtly implied that Alicia was one of them.

Alicia mocked, “If you’re so professional, why don’t you go and be a mentor on a talent show?”
With Felicity’s credentials, it was clear she wasn’t qualified to be a mentor.

Alicia continued, “I’m not saying you can’t point out their flaws. When the time comes, whoever you team up with, you can definitely help them improve. But right now, we’re just watching a replay with the audience, getting to know these contestants together.
“I just hope you’ll also focus on their strengths, instead of constantly pointing out their weaknesses to make yourself look better. That’s only fair to them.”
At this moment, a flood of comments popped up in the livestream. One of the netizens commented: [Once again, Alicia spoke my mind.]
[Felicity is really starting to get on my nerves. Who does she think she’s trying to put down?]
[I don’t like Felicity either. Seems like nothing good ever comes out of her mouth.]
[Those trainees don’t have that many flaws. Felicity just wants to show off. Can’t she stop putting others down?]
[LOL. Looks like Felicity has gotten used to putting Alicia down all the time, and now it’s a habit to put everyone else down.]
The fans of the trainees who had been called out by Felicity were furious, but they couldn’t help but develop a liking for Alicia.
Other viewers also agreed that Alicia was right. Talent shows for idol trainees were about growth, watching ordinary people become idols. There would always be flaws along the way, but the real focus should be on watching their hard work to improve.
Felicity could tell Alicia was mocking her. Felicity’s face twisted in anger as she hissed, “You-”
But before Felicity could say another word, Maxwell, clearly displeased, turned toward her and gave her a cold, cutting look, cutting her off.
Maxwell was blunt. “Can you just shut up for one second? Why can’t you just stop yapping? It’s giving me a headache.
“So what if Spencer has issues with his dancing? Don’t we need to help him with that? You and he aren’t even on the same team yet, so it’s not your place to criticize him.”
Maxwell then rolled his eyes. “And you keep talking down about people, but I honestly don’t think you’re saying anything professional either. Can you stop pretending to be all that?”
Maxwell thought, ‘Felicity is really annoying. Before coming on this variety show, he had already heard about Alicia being forced out of her group and switching agencies, so naturally, he didn’t like Felicity and the other members.
Maxwell thought, ‘What do they even think they are? How dare they look down on my sister?’
Maxwell had even suggested to Nicolas that they blacklist the members of LUMIA But Nicolas said it wasn’t the right time yet and told Maxwell to hold off.
But that didn’t mean Maxwell would be kind to Felicity, though. Especially since Felicity, who always craved the spotlight. was trying to put his sister down.
Maxwell wasn’t going to let that slide. He didn’t care if his words sounded harsh and might get him criticized.
Nicolas was also getting fed up with Felicity. He and Maxwell were watching the show’s replay, but it wasn’t about discussing who was bad. It was mostly so they could talk to Alicia But Felicity just kept talking nonstop, completely ruining their plan.

Nicolas thought, ‘And now Felicity is starting to target Alicia again. Who does Felicity think she is?’

So, Nicolas chimed in, “Yeah. You’re not a judge on this show, so those harsh, mean criticisms really aren’t called for.
“Alicia’s right. They need more time and opportunities to show their effort. We should focus on their strengths. That’s what fans enjoy about helping idols grow.”
Nicolas also threw in a sharp comment. “If you don’t know what you’re talking about, then stop trying so hard. It’s really awkward.”
He thought, ‘Felicity not only loves showing off, but she also doesn’t have a clue how to read the room. And this is live- streamed. We’re not the judges. We’re supposed to be helping these trainees as guests on the show.
‘So why keep criticizing their flaws, even saying some of them are awful? I honestly don’t think they’re that bad. All that’s going to do is upset the trainees and their fans, and possibly make them hold a grudge.’
In this regard, Alicia and Nicole were much smarter than Felicity.
