Chase Carter, the director of Radiance: The Idol Journey, had originally planned for the trainees to watch the livestream to get to know the eight guests and consider who they might want to team up with later.
Chase had not expected them to see the guests start bickering over the trainees from their show.
Although Chase felt a twinge of dislike toward Felicity, he couldn’t help but enjoy the situation. After all, seeing two A-list superstars go at Felicity would naturally boost the attention on Chase’s show.
Sure enough, a moment later, the assistant director Ross came over and said the playback of the previous episode was racking up views at an alarming rate. The official X account had also received plenty of messages from fans encouraging the trainees.
Chase grinned, “This crossover was absolutely the right move.” He then turned to the Ross and other members of the production team. “When Alicia arrives, make sure everyone treats her nicely.”
Chase knew full well that this collaboration was a special plan Lucent Media had arranged for Alicia. Lucent Media had already reminded Chase not to edit Alicia’s footage maliciously. Besides streaming the entire collaboration live, their production team would still edit clips for FlowTV.
Ross nodded. “Of course. Honestly, it’s thanks to Alicia that they were even watching our playback in the car. That really sent our show’s popularity soaring.”
It was also obvious that the two A-list stars had been blunt with Felicity mainly to support Alicia. Those who could bring the show attention were their golden goose, so naturally, the production team would treat Alicia with courtesy.
Apart from the production team, the trainees who were close to each other had also gathered to chat. Since no cameras were recording, they spoke without much restraint.
One of them said, “I had originally hoped to team up with Felicity’s group, but now I don’t want to. I mean, Felicity’s the center in her top girl group, and she’s good at singing and dancing.
“Nicole is a singer too. Being on a team with them should’ve given me plenty of help and guidance. But I’m afraid Felicity would call me terrible on the livestream, so I’ll pass.”
Another chimed in, “Same here. Felicity looks like she has a terrible temper. If we teamed up, she’d definitely yell at me. She doesn’t dare to go against Nicolas and Maxwell, but she would take it out on us.”
The person who had spoke before replied, “Even if Alicia isn’t as talented and skilled as Felicity, I’d still rather pick Alicia. I didn’t know who had been trashing Alicia before, but now I think she’s actually nice.
“Plus, I don’t really agree with Felicity’s criticism of me. I’m not that bad. If I have flaws, I can fix them, but saying my singing is terrible-that’s a bit too much.”
None of them minded being told what they needed to improve on and working to get better. But being criticized as completely useless, or outright terrible, felt unbearable.
At the mention of Felicity, many of the trainees were full of resentment, especially those who’d been most harshly criticized. They would rather team up with Alicia or Darren, who were often called the ones who held the group back, than with Felicity
Even the most popular trainees at this moment had crossed Felicity off their list of potential partners. Nobody wanted to be called out by Felicity on livestream for having too many issues. That’d make the audience and fans think they weren’t capable, lowering their popularity.

Not long after finishing the playback in the car, the guests arrived at the destination.
Chase, the director of Radiance: The Idol Journey, personally came to welcome the Friends on the Road team and led them inside.
Chase smiled at Marley, the director of Friends on the Road, and said, “Shall I take everyone to meet the trainees first and get the team assignments settled?”
Marley grinned back, “Sure.”
The trainees had already been waiting in the studio, though the livestream had been turned off. When they saw the guests enter, they all stood up, smiling as they greeted them. “Mr. Moore, Mr. Delaney, Mr. Graves.”
After greeting every one of them, the trainees sat down again. Many of them became nervous seeing the live cameras following, while others were excited.
Chase gestured for the guests to take their seats before speaking. “First, on behalf of Radiance: The Idol Journey, I warmly welcome all of you for coming to assist the trainees.
“Next, our thirty-two trainees will be divided into four groups, and a week from now, they’ll perform to compete for a spot in the top sixteen.
“However, because of our collaboration with the Setting Off with Friends team, the group assignments have not yet been finalized. Right now, we have two suggestions, and we’d like to hear what you all think.”
Chase continued, “First, we could do a lottery system. The guests take turns drawing lots. Whoever you draw will be your
teammate.”
Since the guests were all higher-profile than the trainees, it made sense for the guests to do the drawing.
Chase added. “The second option is letting everyone choose freely. Trainees would pick their preferred guest partners starting from the highest-ranked trainee. Of course, it’s a two-way selection. Trainees can choose a guest, but if the guest doesn’t want to team up, they can decline.”
Chase looked over at Marley. “Which option do you prefer?”
The trainees tensed up instantly. Naturally, the top-ranked trainees would prefer the second option, while those in the middle or lower ranks leaned toward the first. Otherwise, based on skill and popularity, most of the top trainees would likely end up choosing Nicolas.
Marley preferred the second option, thinking it would be more exciting and definitely stir up some drama. He turned to the eight guests. “Which option do you all want?”
After he asked, the eight remained silent.
Marley’s gaze landed on Nicole and Felicity. “Then let’s start with the first group of guests. Which option, the first or the
second?
Nicole smiled, “I think both are fine. I’m okay with either.” She turned to Felicity. “What about you?”
Nicole preferred the second option, but she didn’t want to speak up, knowing that the trainees who aren’t ranked at the top would probably like the first option.
Alicia wasn’t surprised by Nicole’s answer at all. Nicole cared too much about reputation and image, always calculating to stay in everyone’s good graces. Nicole would just let someone else take the fall and be the bad guy.

As expected, Felicity didn’t hesitate. “I think the second option is better. Strong alliances are more exciting and better showcase real skill.”
Felicity had spent the whole car ride stewing in frustration, and now she finally felt she’d get a chance to shine.
Among the eight guests, Felicity knew idol groups best and was the strongest in singing and dancing. She figured that as long as the trainees weren’t foolish and wanted good results in the upcoming competition, they would choose her and Nicole’s
team.
Of course, Nicolas and Maxwell were extremely popular, and plenty of trainees would probably pick them. But Felicity and Nicole were stronger professionally, so Felicity believed the number of trainees choosing them wouldn’t necessarily be fewer than those picking Nicolas and Maxwell.
Felicity felt confident that even if fewer trainees chose their team, they would still outnumber the other two guest groups. She could accept being second.
Besides, Felicity thought that with this option, Alicia’s group would end up with the fewest trainees, and she liked seeing Alicia embarrassed.
Felicity had also figured out what happened in the car. Nicolas and Maxwell had deliberately sided with Alicia against Felicity. Felicity used to be irritated by Alicia, but now she downright hated Alicia’s guts.
Marley wasn’t surprised by Felicity’s team’s choice. He turned to Simon and Hannah. “What about you two? You guys are the second group.”
Simon and Hannah had already discussed it. “We’ll go with the first option, the lottery,” Hannah said.
They felt it was fairer and would be better for them. Since their focus was acting, trainees wouldn’t be as eager to pick them compared to the other two groups. The top-ranked, skilled trainees were unlikely to choose them.
If Simon and Hannah had weaker trainees, their stage performance during the show would definitely lag behind the other
two groups.
Whether for their own sake or to give the trainees who weren’t at the top a fair shot, Simon and Hannah agreed the lottery was the better choice.
Marley had predicted this and then looked at Nicolas and Maxwell. “You guys are the third group. What do you think?”
Nicolas and Maxwell hadn’t spoken yet when they saw Nicole looking at them with hopeful eyes. They understood what Nicole meant she wanted them to pick the same option as her group.
Nicolas and Maxwell didn’t really care which option they chose. But since Nicole had made it clear she wanted them to match, they would give her that courtesy,
Otherwise, Nicole would sulk, or worse, feel hurt and end up crying to them later when the livestream was over tonight.
So Nicolas and Maxwell both said, “The second option.”
Just as expected, Nicole beamed at them with a sweet smile. Her fans couldn’t stop spamming comments and hyping up how much Nicolas and Maxwell doted on Nicole. Some even started shipping Nicole with Nicolas and Maxwell.
This time, Nicolas’s and Maxwell’s fans didn’t support it and instead fired back, saying there was no chemistry at all.
The director then turned to Alicia and Darren. “What about you two?”
Darren leaned close to Alicia and murmured, “You decide.”

Alicia nodded at him and then told the director, “We’ll go with the first option.”
The director looked troubled. “That means it’s even.” He glanced at Chase. “What should we do?”
Chase thought for a moment. “How about drawing lots? You can be the one to pick.”
Marley asked the guests first, and after getting their agreement, nodded. “Alright.”
The Radiance: The Idol Journey team prepared two scrunched-up pieces of paper together.
Marley grabbed one at random, opened it, and a big smile spread across his face. “The second option.”
Nicole and Felicity were both pleased with the result, and Fiona even flashed a confident smile.

Anyone paying attention could tell what Felicity was thinking-she was certain many trainees would choose her team.
The audience, meanwhile, was eager to see how the trainees would make their selections and which group would be the most popular. They couldn’t wait to find out if Alicia and Darren would end up with the fewest picks.
