Rising From Betrayal Reborn As The Family Outcast novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50

The next morning. Alicia had just finished getting ready when she heard a knock at the door.

She opened it and saw a server standing there with a breakfast cart.

The server told her that someone had ordered breakfast for her and asked them to deliver it. Alicia knew precisely who was behind this, so she turned it down right away.

She called Darren and Jason, and they all went up to the top floor for the buffet together.

Maxwell and Nicolas had their assistant keep tabs on them the whole time.

When they heard the news. Maxwell and Nicolas didn’t go to the top floor.

Instead, they waited until the assistant told them that Alicia and Darren had gone to the studio and Jason was heading back to his room.

That was when Maxwell and Nicolas finally left to corner Jason.

Jason had just stepped out of the elevator when he saw Maxwell and Nicolas standing across from him, and it was obvious they’d been waiting for him on purpose. Nicolas walked up and blocked his path.

“Jason, we came here specifically to find you.” Nicolas said.

Jason looked at him and said flatly, “What do you want?”

Nicolas’ face darkened as he spoke. “If you’re a real man, you shouldn’t use women to get what you want

Jason gave him a look that said if you’re sick, go get help’ and replied. “If that’s all you wanted to say, then move.”

Nicolas crossed his arms and said, “We already know why you’re getting close to Alicia. What do you think she’d do if she found out you’re just using her to help you with that eco-district project? Think she’d want to punch you?”

Jason raised an eyebrow and asked. “You think I’m using her for the project?”

Nicolas let out a snort and said, “Isn’t that exactly what you’re doing? You wouldn’t have gotten close to her if you didn’t know she’s an expert at making medicinal meals, herbal sachets, and therapeutic baths. You need her skills for the specialty services in your eco-resort.”

Jason raised his hand and waved it in front of Nicolas, showing off a string of herb bracelet on his wrist. “You mean something like this?”

Nicolas stared at the bracelet, looking a bit dazed. He asked. ‘She made that for you?”

Alicia had always loved making herbal products, such as scented sachets and bracelets.

The herbal bracelets were pretty complicated to make, so she’d only made one each for Leo and Kevin before.

Nicolas and Maxwell didn’t have any, but now Jason was wearing one.

Jason took the bracelet off his wrist and played with them as he said, “Yeah, she made this specially for me.”

Then he looked at Nicolas with a teasing expression and added, “Looks like you guys don’t have one, huh?”

Nicolas was speechless. I really want to punch this bastard, he thought.

Seeing Nicolas’ face getting darker and darker, Jason felt his mood improve.

He said meaningfully, “I actually didn’t know I could work with her on the eco-resort. Sounds like she plays a pretty important role in the original plan for your four families’ joint project.”

He smiled and continued, “But now I know. I really should thank you for coming all the way here to tell me this.”

In all his previous collaborations with Alicia, this had never come up.

He was pursuing this project mainly to compete with the Farrell family and prevent them from seizing what Damian had worked so hard to create.

He knew Alicia had impressive medical skills and excelled at techniques like acupuncture and medicinal baths, but he’d never intended to drag her into his feud with the Farrell family.

And he certainly hadn’t expected that the Hammond family and others had already included Alicia in their plans for the ecological zone project.

He wasn’t sure if Alicia even knew about this, or what she thought about it.

If she wanted to join the ecological project, she could work with him instead.

At least he wouldn’t let her get the short end of the stick.

He’d find a chance to talk to her and see what she wanted.

Of course, if she wasn’t interested, he wouldn’t force her.

Nicolas’ face filled with shock at those words. “You didn’t know? How is that even possible?”

Jason continued rolling the herb bracelet between his fingers. “That’s why I’m thanking you for telling me.”

He added deliberately, “Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to get her to work with me.”

Nicolas’ expression shifted. “You’re shameless.”

He couldn’t tell if Jason was telling the truth, but if he was, Nicolas had just walked in here like an idiot and handed his rival a gift.

Jason looked at Nicolas and said, “Thanks for the compliment.”

Jason’s tone shifted as he continued, “But compared to you guys, I have to admit I’m actually falling short in one area.

“After all, I’m not the one who helped others bully her while trying to use some so-called friendship to tie her down and make her work on your projects.”

He smiled and added, “If she really partnered with you, what could you give her? Some empty compliments? But when she works with me, I’ll give her everything she deserves, all the benefits and resources she’s earned”

After he finished speaking, he controlled his wheelchair and rolled straight past Nicolas.

This time, Nicolas didn’t try to stop him.

He found himself thinking deeply about Jason’s words.

Maxwell noticed Nicolas spacing out and gave him a shove. “What are you thinking about? Did he piss you off that bad?”

Nicolas snapped back to reality. “It’s nothing. I just feel like I was being stupid today.”

Coming here to confront them on impulse was a mistake.

“Let’s go. We should head to the studio too.”

Maxwell walked alongside him, still fuming. “I can’t believe Alicia made Jason a custom medicinal bracelet. She’s never made anything like that for us.”

Nicolas thought for a moment. “Why don’t you find a chance to pull her aside today and try asking her for one?”

Maxwell actually showed some self-awareness this time. “She doesn’t even want to talk to me. I doubt she’d agree.”

Nicolas offered a suggestion. “You could try playing the sympathy card. Tell her your wrist hurts really bad and it might affect your dancing during the performance. Just act as pitiful and pathetic as you can.”

In the past, whenever Maxwell played the sympathy card, Alicia would cave. Now he wanted to see how far he could push her limits.

Maxwell’s eyes lit up. “That makes sense,” he said.

He had occupational injuries from overusing his wrists, so they hurt all the time.

If he wanted to keep playing professionally, the pain would never fully go away.

Every time it flared up, he’d go to Alicia for treatment, and that would help for a while.

Last year, his team wasn’t in great shape before the global finals, so they ramped up training hard.

His wrist injury flared up again.

They were in Hocem at the time, and the pain was so bad he knew it would mess up his performance in the upcoming matches, so he called Alicia on video chat and played it up.

That same night, Alicia booked a flight and flew to Hocem to give him acupuncture and massage.

She grumbled and scolded him the whole time, but it filled him with a warm sense of security.

She even treated his teammates and got everyone back in shape. They ended up winning last year’s championship.

That gave him back-to-back championships, and this year he was gunning for a three-peat before retirement.

When the two of them arrived at the studio, everyone else was already there.

The livestream started the moment they walked through the door.

Maxwell didn’t go to his seat; instead, he walked straight over to Alicia.

He held out the watermelon-flavored xylitol gum that he’d asked his assistant to buy and deliver just now.

Alicia glanced at it and said, “I don’t like watermelon flavor. You can keep it.”

Maxwell froze. “But didn’t you say yesterday that you liked watermelon flavor?

Alicia rolled her eyes at him. “You just said it yourself-that was yesterday.”

Then she added with clear distaste, “And look, we’re not close, so I need you to keep your distance. I don’t want your fans coming after me.”

Yesterday, some viewers left comments saying that Maxwell and Nicolas were sucking up to her, and fans on both sides got angry. The irrational ones even went on X to attack her.

Maxwell rubbed his temples and said, “I’ll have my assistant manage the fans better. Please don’t take it to heart.”

Alicia gave him a cold look. “If you were the one getting attacked, would you just let it go?”

She was too lazy to care about the insults, but that didn’t mean she wanted to be a target.

Maxwell felt deflated. Not only had he failed to make things better, but he’d made her even more upset.

He pressed his palms together in a pleading gesture. “Okay, okay, it’s all my fault.” He gave her an apologetic look. “I’m sorry.”

Alicia nodded. “Fine. I hear you.”

Maxwell blinked in confusion. “That’s it?’ he thought. Before, she would’ve said something sarcastic like ‘you’re dismissed’ or whatever. What does ‘I hear you’ even mean? Is she forgiving me or not?’

But Alicia had already turned to talk to Darren and didn’t spare him another glance.

He had no choice but to walk back to his seat, letting out several heavy sighs in a row.

Everyone was shocked by this scene, especially the viewers watching the livestream.

[Maxwell walked in and immediately started sucking up to Alicia, wtf?]

[They’re showing us this right off the bat. This is wild.]

[So Mr. Delaney actually knows how to apologize, who knew.]

[He just never met anyone he needed to suck up to before.]

[Maxwell, your arrogant bad boy persona is completely shattered now.]

Maxwell’s fans opened the stream and saw this, and it hit them hard.

Yesterday, they couldn’t help cursing him out, but today, they suddenly felt like whatever. They’d come to terms with it because Maxwell was so pathetic.
