Chapter 153: Broken promise

Jade’s pov

I looked at her as she was vomiting blood.

Her face was beginning to become pale, and I looked away.

“I am dying?” she asked me, and I couldn’t answer her.

“Yes, the dagger you used to kill David is considered a double-edged sword,” Mom answered her.

I looked at Mom, and I could see that this was killing her as well.

“I don’t understand,” she said.

“It was all a trap, two birds with one stone kind of trap. You were the only person who could kill David, since you had his dark magic inside you,” I said, and then looked at Dante.

“You tricked me?” Sasha asked me.

I looked at her; she obviously didn’t have the energy to fight.

The look in her eyes told me that she knew her end was near.

She didn’t even try to fight it but just sat there and accepted it.

“Actually, sister, this was all your doing,” Jay said, and I looked at him confused.

How could he say that to her, knowing that she is going to die?

He should be kind to her.

“All Jade did was set a trap that you fell into because of your love for power. All of this wouldn’t have happened. You never make the right decisions,” he said.

“Enough, Jay,” Mom said, and Jay scoffed and looked away.

“Jay is right, sister,” Uncle said and then looked at Sasha.

“She has so many chances to make the right choices, but she never does. A stranger gave her a portion to steal her sister’s destiny, and she did it without a second thought. What if that was poison and it killed Jade?” Uncle asked.

“And even if we say that she was young and ignorant. When she realized her mistake, she should have taken the right decision,” Uncle added.

“I agree, but instead, she used dark magic to separate her younger sister from her mate. Not only that, but you forced Jade into a marriage with the intent of using her,” Jay supported what Uncle

said.

Sasha looked up; the dark magic had left her body.

I looked at her and saw that their words were having an impact on her.

“I am not saying that you deserve to die. But this was the only solution in sight,” Jay added gently.

His voice was now void of all that anger he had.

“How did you know I would fall into the trap?” Sasha asked me.

“You showed up to threaten me at the hospital I worked at. I found it weird that you could find me so easily. I figured that it meant that you somehow knew,” I answered, and she nodded.

She bugged Dante’s office.

I think she was keeping an eye on him for her partner in crime.

They took her to her room, and one by one, everyone went inside to talk to her.

I checked on Dove, who was looking much better.

Her pale skin was now starting to look lively. She was even eating, and she seemed cheerful as

Tom was talking to her.

“It’s your turn,” Mom said, and I nodded and walked to my sister’s room.

Her breathing was a little shallow, and she was barely holding on.

“You won,” she said, and I scoffed at this.

“I am about to lose my older sister, Dove is losing her mom. Mom is losing her daughter, and my best friend will be losing her brother all in one day. No one won here, sister,” I answered.

She closed her eyes.

“I didn’t remember,” she said and I looked at her, confused.

“Over the years, I.think it was the dark magic. I started forgetting things,” she said and opened her

eyes to look at me.

“I forgot how Uncle would also read me bedtime stories. I forgot how Mom would always buy me a dress when she went shopping. I forgot how you adored me,” she said with tears in her eyes.

“Is your life flashing before your eyes?” I asked her, and she smiled and nodded.

“I think so, Jay and Uncle were right. I created this whole mess,” she said and then sighed.

“Everyone deserved better. Our parents deserved a better daughter, my siblings deserved a better

daughter,

older sister, and Dove deserved a good mother,” she said, and then held my hand.

“I have always been a burden to you. I have always given you my responsibilities. Can I burden you

for one last time?” she asked me.

I nodded. I will only agree if it is reasonable.

“Officially adopt Dove as yours. Don’t ever tell her about me, raise her as your own,” she said, and I

frowned at this.

“I will raise if she is my own daughter. But she is your daughter. Don’t worry, I will tell you about the

wise person you were,” I said.

“You are mocking me, what have I ever done that I can be called wise?” she asked me.

Flashback

“What are you doing here?” Sasha asked me, and I just shrugged.

“It’s because of Mom and Aunt, right?” she asked me, and I nodded.

“They are sisters, right? Why are they always fighting?” I asked her and she smiled at this.

“You are 8 years old, you shouldn’t be thinking about all of this,” she said.

I looked at her with tears in my eyes.

“Will we end up like them? I don’t want us to be like them when we grow up,” I said and she

chuckled at this.

“We won’t be like them at all,” she said, and I looked at her hopefully.

“How can you be so sure?” I asked her and she thought about it.

“Because I will never let that happen. As your older sister, I will protect you no matter what,” she

answered, and I smiled at this.

“Plus, we have a stupid younger brother. We will have to work together to protect that i***t,” she

added, and I chuckled.
