Chapter 188
I swallowed, trying to clear my tightening throat. I didn’t want this. As vile as Chris was, I didn’t want another death on my conscience. If I just would’ve struck out with my powers and incapacitated him instantly, we could’ve
avoided all of this.
It was a balance, I realized. Knowing when to hold back and when to attack. Understanding exactly how much power you needed to let loose.
Knox wrapped his arms around me. “We love you, Senna. And that means we’ll do anything to protect you. Even if you don’t like our methods.”
“Tell me you won’t utter Senna’s name again,” Anson demanded.
“Fuck you, man.”
Anson’s hand tightened around Chris‘ throat. “I’m giving you more chances than I should to get smart. Promise me
you won’t ever speak about Senna again. That you’ll stay far away.”
“And I said fuck you.” The words were barely audible through Chris‘ constricted airway.
My stomach cramped as Anson’s hand tightened further.
“It’s enough,” I said.
“It’s not enough for me,” Anson growled.
In one swift move, Anson unsheathed his claws. No other part of his body transformed, just the long, vicious claws jutting out of his fingertips. Yet I could feel the dominant vibes wafting off him.
Chris paled as his jaw dropped open. “W–what?”
“You so much as breathe on Senna and you die. This is to remind you of that fact.”
Anson’s claws sliced across Chris‘ chest.
He cried out and collapsed to the floor as Anson released him.
Anson’s claws instantly retracted and he wiped the blood on his jeans. “Let’s get out of here before I change my
mind and end him.”
Sadie’s eyes jumped around the group. She opened and closed her mouth, as if she were trying to speak, but no words came out.

Chapter 188
Anson glared in her direction. “That warning goes for you too. Stay the hell away from Senna. From me. From all of
us.”
Her head bobbed up and down in a manic nod.
Anson prowled down the hallway. It was as if his wolf half still had the reins. He moved with that animal intensity, his head on a swivel, looking for any would–be assailants,
My throat burned as Knox guided me after him, Caspian and River on either side of us.
River moved in closer. “You okay?”
I couldn’t help but feel like all of this was my fault. Not acting fast enough with enough force. I nodded but knew it wasn’t convincing. “I just want to go home.”
Knox squeezed my shoulders. “That we can do.”
The bubbles consumed me as I sank deeper into the bath. The heat of the water soothed away the worst of the aches and pains. I tipped my head back against the rim of the massive tub and closed my eyes.
The rage coursing through Anson’s face flashed in my mind. My eyes flew open. So naptime wasn’t a great idea right
now.
A soft knock sounded on the bathroom door.
“Come in.”
The door slid open quietly, and Anson stepped inside, shutting it behind him. His hair was damp from his shower. He was shirtless, only in low–slung gray sweatpants.
He crossed towards me but moved slowly. I hated the hesitancy in those steps.
Anson eyed me warily as he came to a stop near the tub.
I pulled a hand out of the bubbles and reached out to him. He took it instantly, the tension in his shoulders easing a bit. He lowered himself to the floor next to the tub and leaned in to nuzzle my neck. “Love you, Sen.”
“Love you too.” My voice cracked on the words.
Anson pulled back a fraction, pain in his eyes. “Did I scare you?”
“What? No.” More guilt swirled as I pulled him to me. “You could never scare me. I just hated that you had to do that because I didn’t act quickly enough.”
Anson jerked away from me, his eyes flaring. “None of this is your
fault.”
