Chapter 187
As soon as he hit the floor, I pulled my power back, and it came with ease. Then I simply stepped around Chris, writhing on the floor, and pulled my backpack and books out of my locker.
“Chris?” a shrill voice demanded.
I turned to Sadie, hands on hips. She didn’t look all that concerned about her boyfriend, who was clearly in pain. She looked…annoyed. No, pissed.
“I told you to teach her a lesson.”
I stiffened, a million thoughts running through my head. I slammed my locker and prowled towards her. “You told your boyfriend to attack me? To rapeme?” Because that had been what was beneath his threats.
Sadie pointed her nose in the air. “You’d probably like it. You-”
I didn’t give her a chance to finish. My hand shot out, making contact with her chest. Energy flew from my palm, grabbing hold of Sadie. “Doing that to another girl? That makes you lower than low. If you ever come near me again, if I ever hear of you messing with anyone else? I’ll end you.”
I pulled my power back with a snap, and she flew back into the lockers. As Sadie sank to the floor, eyes wide with terror, thundering footsteps sounded in the hallway.
Sen, where are you?It was River’s panicked voice in my head. I felt pain. Fear.
Shit. Apparently my adrenaline had kept the worst of the emotions hidden from River, but now it was fading. I’m fine. I’m by my locker.
The footsteps intensified. Four hulking males skidded to a stop. It must have looked ridiculous. Me with my bulging backpack. Chris groaning on the floor. Sadie shaking in fear.
Anson’s chest rose and fell in ragged breaths. “What. The. Hell. Happened?”
Oh crap. Someone was going to die.
I moved to Anson, placing a hand on his chest. His heart beat rapidly against my palm. I reached up, forcing his head. down so that our eyes locked. “I’m okay.”
“What. Happened?” he gritted out.
I swallowed hard. “These two geniuses thought it would be a brilliant idea to jump me in the hallway. But that didn’t work out so well for them.”

Chapter 187
My words didn’t seem to ease the tension thrumining through Anson.
Knox’s eyes glowed in the low lights of the hallway. “Why didn’t you mind link us?”
I stilled. Why hadn’t I? There had been a few moments in the fight where I’d been truly scared, yet I hadn’t reached
out. “I forgot.”
Knox froze, his only movement the fisting of his hands. “You forgot?”
“This whole shifter thing is new to me, remember?” I kept my voice low, knowing the guys would be able to pick up
the words, but Sadie and Chris wouldn’t.
Caspian ran a hand through his hair. “That is something that’s kind of important to remember.”
“Sorry.”
River moved to my side, his hands running over me. “You’re hurting.”
“Just a little.”
“No, your head and your ribs are killing you.” He lifted my shirt, exposing my side where a large red mark showed over the lightning bolt I’d been marked with a few days ago
Anson’s nostrils flared. “What did he do?”
“Tried to use me for martial arts practice, but he didn’t succeed. I’m fine. I promise.”
Anson let out a low growl.
“Hey.” I lifted my hands to Anson’s cheeks, ignoring the flare of pain in my side. “I really am okay. A couple of bumps and bruises. By tomorrow, it will be like none of this happened.”
His head dipped and nuzzled the side of my neck. “He could’ve really hurt you.”
“But he didn’t.”
“You have to call when you need us. You aren’t alone anymore,” Knox said.
My gaze shifted to him. I could hear the remnants of hurt in his voice. “This wasn’t me trying to go it alone. I swear. Everything just happened so fast. I was at my locker and the punch came out of nowhere-”
“He punched you?”
Anson’s words felt as if they rattled the walls around us.
