Screw My Childhood Sweetheart His Alpha Brother Marked Me First novel Chapter 54

Chapter 54

An arm shifted around my waist and pulled me tighter against a muscled chest. Anson’s familiar scent filled my nose. The form in front of me turned, seeming to follow us. Lucassandy brown hair and chiseled jaw came into focus, as his hand found

mine under the covers.

My nose stung as my gaze swept over the rest of the room. Knox was asleep on some blankets on the floor, and Caspian was curled up on a sofa. A burn lit in my throat as I took in yet another person at the foot of the bed.

Vaughn. He was rumpled, his black hair sticking up in every direction, and there was no way he could be comfortable. But he

was here. He hadn’t left.

Ro?Riverwhispered.

Hi,I croaked, my eyes meeting those hazel ones.

His hand squeezed mine. How do you feel?

Okay, I think.Better than I should’ve. My eyes and throat hurt from crying, but nothing else. There wasn’t even an ache in my cheek.

I waited for shame or embarrassment to wash over me, at the guys having seen me fall apart like that, but it didn’t come. For

some reason, I felt safe letting them know exactly what a mess I was.

You’re not alone in this. We’re going to figure it out together.

My head fell forward, resting on Lucasbare chest. With his free hand, he stroked my hair.

Someone’s phone alarm sounded, and Knox sat straight up, silencing it quickly. His gaze cut to me as I pushed up in bed. Are you okay?

Yeah. I’m fine. Sorry about-

You never have to apologize. Not to us,Knox cut me off.

Something about that sent warmth flooding through my chest.

Vaughn stood up from the bed, surveying my face. We should check your wounds.

I swallowed at the rage simmering in those iceblue eyes. Okay.

Anson sat up next to me. Here. I’ll take the bandage off. I didn’t want to do it last night since you were finally resting.

He carefully peeled back the large covering. His hands froze as he lowered the gauze. What the hell?

I stiffened, sitting up straighter. What is it? What’s wrong?

Knox and Vaughn were by Anson’s side in a flash, Caspian hovering behind them. Knox’s eyes widened. There’s nothing

there.

What do you mean?I scooted towards the end of the bed and then hurried to a large mirror over a dresser. I studied my cheek in the reflection. The only thing that was there were two thin, red lines where the worst of the wounds had been. They looked like faint cat scratches.

My fingers lifted, slowly tracing the lines. There was no sign of a scar or anything else. I turned, facing the guys. Wwhat’s happening? What’s wrong with me?

Vaughn’s gaze was hard. Nothing’s wrong with you.

This isn’t normal.

Knox took a step forward, a hint of concern flashing across his expression. I think I know, but-

If you say that you can’t tell me yet, I’m going to junk punch you.

Caspian choked on a laugh. She has a point, H. Ro deserves to know what’s going on.

I straightened. Thank you. Now someone freaking tell me.

After school,Knox said. We’ll go to the compound and explain everything. But my father has to be there. We have no choice

about that.

He’s right,Riversaid. Mason has to be the one to tell you.

I searched the faces in front of me, trying to get any glimmer of a clue. Possibilities ran through my head, everything from me really being an alien, to having been bitten by a radioactive spider and not realizing it. I wanted to tell them to take me to Mason right now, but I didn’t want to find out what would happen if the school called my mom and she found out I’d skipped.

I want you to promise you’ll take me right after school. No more lies and halftruths.

Knox inclined his head towards me. You have my word.

I looked at the rest of the guys. Do I need to get that in writing or is that enough?

Anson chuckled. Knox might be a lot of things, but he’s always true to his word.

Knox sent Anson a glare. Gee, thanks.
