Chapter 113
Calista waited in the ballroom, but Olivia never came
back, so she went out to look for her.
She searched everywhere and couldn’t find her, but then she spotted Olivia’s hair tie by the covered bridge near the lake, and her blood ran cold.
Calista called out frantically. “Olivia?! Olivia, where are you?!”
Her voice caught the attention of Evander and the others, as well as Killian, who had been discussing business in the gazebo.
Fiona led a group of people in their direction.
Calista shouted again. “Olivia!”
There was still no response.
Evander and Killian both rushed to Calista’s side.
Both men spoke at the same time, their voices tense with wogry. “What happened to Olivia?”

Calista acted as if she didn’t even see Killian and rushed straight to Evander, grabbing his hand desperately.
Calista’s voice trembled. “Evander, Olivia’s missing. I only found her hair tie here. What if she…”
She couldn’t finish the thought and tried to reassure herself instead. No, that couldn’t be it. Olivia couldn’t swim, and she always stayed away from the water.
But then doubt crept back in, and she murmured anxiously. “But what if…”
Evander grabbed her hand and spoke softly to comfort her. Evander said, “Calista, don’t worry. We’ll find her together.”
Calista nodded quickly and said, “Okay, okay.”
Killian’s dark gaze swept over Calista’s hand where
Evander had touched her. He couldn’t stand watching the
two of them act so intimately.
Olivia was his and Calista’s daughter, and she didn’t need another man worrying about her.

Evander asked, “Calista, calm down. Think carefully. Where did you last see Olivia?”
Calista answered frantically, “Olivia said she was going to the bathroom. But why is her hair tie here by the lake?”
Calista stared at the still water, and her mother’s instinct took over. She didn’t hesitate and rushed straight toward
the lake.
Evander reacted fast and caught her around the waist.
Evander said firmly, “You can’t swim either. Don’t go in. I’ll go.”
Killian said coldly, “She’s my daughter. I don’t need you to worry about her.”
He turned to Fiona and asked calmly, “Ms. Sullivan, please send some people over and have them go down into the water and…”
Before Killian could finish his sentence, Evander had
already taken off his suit jacket and jumped into the lake without hesitation.

The calm water exploded with a splash.
Everyone gasped in shock.
Fiona shouted, “Evander! That water is deep!”
Another person yelled, “Mr. Hayes!”
A third voice called out, “Mr. Hayes, come back up! Security is on the way!”
Evander’s decisive action left Killian frozen in place. He had wanted to jump in too, but he didn’t know what the terrain was like underwater.
Killian felt a mix of complicated emotions, and the guests’ stares made him feel embarrassed and humiliated.
Killian spun around and stared at Calista with ice in his
eyes.
He demanded, “What kind of mother are you? How could you let her run off like that?”
Calista said nothing.

The guilt was eating her alive. If anything happened to Olivia, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself.
Killian snapped, “You’re so irresponsible, Calista! You’re too busy with your boyfriend to even watch your own kid. If you can’t handle it, give our daughter back to me!”
Calista’s eyes burned red, but she kept them fixed on the lake’s surface. She didn’t hear a word he said.
Fiona stepped in and comforted Calista while she shot Killian a sharp look.
She said, “Are you done? Mothers aren’t perfect, and freaking out at her isn’t helping anyone. How about you focus on finding Olivia instead of pointing fingers?”
Killian paused. He said, “I’m just worried about my daughter. I’m scared.”
Fiona fired back, “Then worry about your own son! We’ll take care of Calista and Olivia.”
She suddenly realized Austin had been gone for a while,
too.

She asked, “Where’s your son anyway?”
Killian frowned. He had no idea.
Fiona shot back, “You don’t know where the kid is
either.”
She turned to the guests and raised her voice, “Has anyone seen that guy with the colorful hair?”
Someone called out, “I remember him. I think I saw him by the lake earlier.”
Another guest added, “Yeah, he was walking toward the covered bridge. Where’d he go?”
Austin was at the covered bridge, too?
Calista’s heart jumped into her throat when she heard this, and panic seized her completely.
Something didn’t add up.
Fiona tried to reassure her, “Calista, don’t worry. Callum went to check the security footage. Olivia’s smart, so

she’ll be fine.”
That was when Killian realized he hadn’t seen Austin in a
while either.
Had the kid done something stupid and jumped in the
lake?
Or had he pushed Olivia into the water and run off?
The more Killian thought about it, the worse it felt.
Either way, he had to do something.
