Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 114

Chapter 114

Calista grabbed Olivia’s arm and pulled her toward the lake. “Evander, Olivia’s back! You can come up now!”

A few moments passed before Evander resurfaced.

Water dripped from his body, and he visibly relaxed when he saw Olivia standing there safe and sound.

He pulled himself out of the water in one smooth motion and climbed onto the shore.

Calista rushed over to help him sit down, but before she could ask anything, she noticed blood staining his white shirt. “You’re hurt!”

Evander shook his head. “Just scraped it on a rock. Is Olivia okay?”

Olivia quickly spoke up, “Mr. Hayes, I’m fine! You need to get that wound treated!”

“It’s nothing serious,” Evander said, but then he paused.

Eyander deliberately waited a beat before continuing, 154

Now that Olivia was safe, Calista started asking questions. “Olivia, why was your hair tie by the lake? I thought you’d fallen in, so Mr. Hayes jumped in right away to find you.”

Olivia looked up at them with guilt written all over her face and said, “I’m so sorry, Mom. I’m sorry, Mr. Hayes.”

Calista quickly softened her voice and reassured her, “Olivia, don’t be scared. Take your time and tell us what happened.”

Olivia raised her hand and pointed directly at Austin as she explained, “Mom, Austin tried to push me into the lake!”

Her voice trembled as she finished speaking, and the hurt was evident in every word.

No matter how much they fought or argued as siblings, she never imagined Austin would actually try to hurt her.

He knew she couldn’t swim, and if she had really fallen into that lake, the consequences would have been unthinkable.

They were twins, connected by blood and sharing the most similar genes in the world.

From the moment they came into existence, they had been together, two halves of the same whole.

How could he do this to her?

Everyone listening felt a wave of fear wash over them.

This was the girl Evander treasured above all else, the one he would risk his own safety to protect.

Austin must have a death wish if he dared to lay a hand on her.

Calista pressed down her shock and asked patiently, “And then what? How did things end up like this?”

She knew Olivia wasn’t the type to cause trouble without reason, so she gently brushed her hair back and comforted her.

Olivia answered, “I dodged him just in time, so I dragged Austin into the woods and we fought it out.”

Even after doing that, Olivia still didn’t feel like it was enough.

Evander understood immediately and asked seriously, “Did you win?”

“I won!”

“That’s my girl!” Evander added with conviction, “When you’re out there, don’t let anyone push you around. I’ve got your back.”

Austin watched this entire exchange and felt jealousy mixed with envy consume him.

Whenever he got into trouble, Killian only blamed him for stirring up problems and never spoke to him this gently.

Austin protested, “I didn’t push you. Don’t accuse me of something I didn’t do.”

He looked at Killian for help and hoped his father would defend him like Evander always did for his kids.

But Killian frowned, and his eyes showed nothing but exhaustion and impatience.

Killian said coldly, “Handle your own problems.”

Austin fell silent.

Just moments ago, he had felt touched when Killian jumped in the water to find him.

Now, seeing that cold expression, disappointment settled

in his chest.

It seemed like he would never get any emotional support

from Killian.

All he ever got was cold calculation and concern for the Frost family’s reputation.

When he turned to Calista and tried to find some warmth from her, she stared back at him with cold, guarded eyes.

He felt like an island, standing alone against everyone and fighting this battle by himself.

Calista asked coldly, “Did you push Olivia or not?” 15:55

Austin’s heart sank. He had never seen Calista like this before.

He only remembered how she used to protect him fiercely when he was wronged, defending him like a mother hen guarding her chick.

She loved him so much, so how could she speak to him in that tone?

Austin opened his mouth and said, “I didn’t push her.”

Olivia didn’t believe him and shot back, “Then why did you raise your hand? If I hadn’t dodged, I would’ve been in the water.”

Austin clenched his fists and asked, “Olivia, what do you gain from framing me?”

Callum’s calm but firm voice cut through the tension. “We can check the security cameras and find out if she’s framing you.”

Callum walked over to Fiona with his tablet and stopped beside her.
