Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Austin ground his teeth together and stomped over to the registration area, holding back his frustration. He was tall enough to easily push his way to the front of the line.

Olivia got shoved uncomfortably and protectively yelled while shielding Calista, “Hey! Stop pushing! Can’t you just wait in line like everyone else?”

The moment she finished speaking, she felt a cold stare boring into her. She looked up and locked eyes with

Austin.

Olivia found it boring and rolled her eyes before looking

away.

Austin snorted, “With your amateur skills, you’ve got the nerve to enter this competition? Stop embarrassing yourself!”

Olivia snorted right back at him. “Didn’t you hate chess? What are you doing here?”

Austin’s rebellious gaze carried a hint of disdain. “I’m nothing like you. I’ve got my own plans.”

After that mess at the school ceremony had tanked his reputation, even the gifted program teachers looked down on him now.

He wanted to win a major award through his own abilities and use it to turn his image around.

If this were any other competition, he might’ve hesitated a bit. But this chess tournament was being hosted by Bradley, and he’d studied chess for several years now. Winning first place would be a piece of cake. All he had to do was have a word with Bradley.

So what if Olivia was talented? Now that she’d been kicked out of the Frost family, she couldn’t tap into their father’s resources and connections anymore. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t compete with him.

Calista knew her son was standing right beside her. She didn’t bother looking at him and just patiently checked over the registration form Olivia had filled out.

Back when she wanted to develop the kids’ focus and critical thinking skills, she’d hired a chess instructor to

teach them both.

Olivia had really gotten into it and would often study chess books for hours at a time, sitting quietly for two hours straight without moving.

Austin couldn’t sit still that long. He was always hungry or tired, or his hands would get restless, or he’d fidget in

his seat.

But because Olivia kept at it, Austin’s competitive streak

kicked in and he stuck with the lessons too.

Calista didn’t know exactly how much Austin had learned

or what his skill level was, but she was certain of one thing. He couldn’t hold a candle to Olivia.

“Olivia, once you’re done filling it out, let’s head out.”

Calista took Olivia’s hand along with Evander’s and turned to leave the registration area.

Nicole, who’d been watching them the whole time, went wide-eyed the moment she got a clear look at Evander’s face.

She wasn’t tired anymore and jumped right up, staring at

that devastatingly handsome man like she was in a

trance.

Killian narrowed his eyes when he noticed Calista had brought that guy along.

Anger flared up inside him out of nowhere. He didn’t know if Calista was just stupid or so desperate for affection that she’d gotten this close to some gold-digging playboy.

He strode over and planted himself right in front of Calista, clearly looking for a fight.

Evander stepped forward, his deep eyes locked on Killian.

Calista tugged at his sleeve gently, and Evander realized she didn’t want to cause a scene here. His expression softened slightly as he brushed the hair off his forehead.

“Mr. Frost, how about compensating me for medical bills, lost wages, and emotional distress?”

A cold laugh rumbled from Killian’s chest.

“How much?”

Fine, he’d been the one who’d hit him, so he’d pay up. He wasn’t petty enough to haggle over something like this with someone like him.

“100 thousand dollars.”

“What?”

Killian thought he’d misheard. The guy had barely broken. skin, and now he had the audacity to demand a hundred grand?

Is he out of his mind?

Killian took a deep breath. “Fine. 100 thousand dollars it is. I’ll get it to you in a bit.”

He grabbed Calista’s wrist and yanked her aside. Calista quickly gestured to Evander and Olivia, letting them know everything was fine and they shouldn’t cause

trouble here.

Killian stared at Calista with frustration. “Are you really

that desperate for a man? You had to go find some pretty boy to keep you company? Look at him, acting like he’s never seen money before. That 50 million dollars you got from me? He’s gonna scam it all away from you sooner or later!”

Calista’s expression stayed cold as she shot back, “Even if he does scam me out of every penny, what’s it got to do with you? Ex-husband?”

“Calista, you don’t need to provoke me.” Killian let out a mocking laugh. “You know exactly what my relationship with Bradley is, and you still showed up here to register. You just want to get close to me, right? And you

deliberately brought that pretty boy with you, clearly just looking for attention.”

Calista wanted to ask if his brain was full of shit. How could he come up with such disgusting ideas?

But before she could say anything, she caught sight of Nicole out of the corner of her eye. Nicole had somehow wiggled her way over to Evander and was twirling her hair, then her foot “slipped” as she fell toward him in the most theatrical way possible.
