Chapter 84
Byron and Kristen’s eyes lit up instantly, and they looked ready to give Evander anything he asked for, even their hearts if needed.
Evander picked up the chess manual from Byron’s hands and paused for a moment. “I remember you’re pretty close with the chess grandmaster, Sir Wesley Winchester.”
“Wesley? Yeah, we play chess together all the time.” Without any grandkids to keep them busy, Byron and Kristen had to find their own hobbies to fill the endless
boring days.
Byron had just been playing casually at first, but over time, his skills improved, and he’d become friends with Wesley.
“There’s a youth chess tournament coming up in New York. If you could invite Sir Winchester to attend and
watch, that would help me out a lot.”
Byron made a thoughtful sound. “Wesley hasn’t participated in this kind of competition in ages.¡I’d have43

to ask him first.”
Evander spread his hands helplessly. “Well then, I guess I’ll just have to lose the love of my life.”
“No! He’ll definitely go. Just send me the time and address, and I’ll drag him there if I have to.” For the sake of Evander’s love life, Byron threw dignity and propriety out the window. Even if he had to embarrass himself completely, he was going to help.
Kristen was more cautious though. After all, she’d been a surgeon for so many years, and rational thinking and careful consideration were essential qualities. “Evander, what does this person you like have to do with a youth chess tournament?”
Evander refused to reveal anything and just smiled mysteriously. “You’ll find out when the time comes.”
Kristen’s brows furrowed, and her eyes behind her glasses carried a hint of suspicion as her voice cooled. “Evander, this person you like… is it a woman? How old is she? Is this legal? Is she a decent person?”
Byron squeezed his wife’s hand, his face full of

admiration. His wife was brilliant as always. He’d almost lost his judgment from being too excited.
Evander was speechless. Did they really trust him that little?
He stood up and headed toward the chess room, talking as he walked. “Don’t worry. It’s completely legal.”
The time when it wasn’t legal had long passed. He rummaged around inside for a bit and found a thick journal. Grabbing it, he strode toward the courtyard.
Byron and Kristen stood there looking completely confused. Since their son rarely came home, Kristen tried to make him stay. “Evander, where are you going? You hardly ever come back. At least stay for dinner tonight.”
“Yeah, spend some time talking with us.”
Evander waved his hand casually. “Can’t. I’ve got to go chase after my girlfriend.”
“Oh, then hurry up and go.” Byron and Kristen’s attitude flipped in an instant, and they waved their hands too,
shoping him away. “Bring your girlfriend home soon!” 5:43

Kristen added, “And if you don’t bring her home, don’t bother coming back yourself!”
Evander was speechless.
After Evander left, Kristen practically skipped back to the bedroom.
She opened the safe and carefully took out a rosewood jewelry box.
Byron followed behind her, curious. “That’s what Mom left you. Why are you taking it out?”
“Hmph. There’s something I have to do.” Kristen snapped a few photos and then started typing away on her phone.
Byron didn’t get it. Then he remembered Evander had gone into his chess room earlier, so he hurried over to check if anything was missing.
After searching for a while, he finally figured it out. Evander had taken the handwritten notes Wesley gave him!

Those notes contained half a lifetime’s worth of Wesley’s chess strategies and experience, all written by hand!
“Who the hell has this boy fallen for?”
Kristen stood in the doorway still chatting on her phone, a smile tugging at her lips that she couldn’t suppress. “As long as it’s a woman, she’s alive, and it’s legal, I don’t care who she is. I’m thrilled.”
“Fair enough.” Byron cheered up too. “I was starting to think he’d be a bachelor forever.”
Byron was in such a good mood that he didn’t even care about the lost notes anymore. He immediately called Wesley, “Wesley, there’s something you absolutely have to help me with…”
While Byron was on the phone with Wesley, Kristen started chatting in their retiree group chat. She posted a photo of a top-tier emerald bracelet.
Kristen: [Oops, wrong photo! How do I unsend this?]
Someone gasped in amazement.

[Holy crap, that emerald bracelet is incredible quality! The green is so pure and vibrant, it’s breathtaking!]
[Seriously. The price is breathtaking too. That thing could buy a mansion in New York!]
Kristen sent a giggling emoji. [Oh well, it’s a family heirloom so I don’t even know how much it’s worth. I
meant to send it to my son’s girlfriend but sent it to the wrong place.]
Everyone immediately understood. This wealthy matriarch wasn’t showing off the bracelet but bragging that her son had a girlfriend now.
[Your son’s getting married?]
[Congrats, Kristen! After all these years, your wish finally came true.]
[When is the wedding?]
Kristen: [Just wait. I’ll definitely invite everyone to the celebration.]
Kristen put away her phone in high spirits, finally able to 678
