Angeline looked in the direction that Marion was pointing in, but her gaze traveled past the bar and landed on Sean, who was coming in through a side door. A bunch of strangers surrounded him.
The Night Palace was dimly lit, with strobing lights that flashed and blinked. Angeline could barely see Marion's face clearly, even though she was standing right before her. Yet, she spotted Sean immediately.
The blue and purple lighting and the strobing white lights seemed to dance across his chiseled features, but the wild chaos that permeated the atmosphere did not appear to reach his cold, impassive expression.
Sean's shirt, tie, vest, and suit were perfectly in place. His pants looked as if they had just been ironed, and he wore a cold expression as he walked amid a reverent crowd. He walked straight toward an elevator on the first floor, which a staff member guarded.
There was a sharp contrast between him and the other patrons.
Angeline gripped the railing and hurriedly took a few steps forward in his direction, but all she caught was Sean's upright figure in the elevator as it glided upward.
Angeline recalled Taylor mentioning that Sean was going to work overtime tonight. She wondered the reason for his presence here.
"What's wrong, Angeline?"
Marion caught up to Angeline and looked curiously at the ascending elevator. All she saw was that it had stopped on the fourth floor, and those inside walked out.
She asked, "What are you looking at?"
"Nothing much."
Angeline took out her phone.
"I'm going to make a call."
Angeline walked to a quieter environment. She was about to call Sean, but her finger hovered over the dial button. She wondered if it was appropriate for her to ask him of his whereabouts if he answered the call.
However, Taylor was not among the people with whom Sean had been with. She began to worry that Sean was in danger.
Angeline decided to call Taylor instead. She called four times before he picked up.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Angeline. I was in the shower."
No wonder there was a guard in front of the elevator. It led to the office of the Night Palace's boss.
Angeline finally decided to call Sean after watching the waiter leave.
Although it rang thrice, no one answered.
Angeline sent him a message.
"I have something I need to talk to you about. Call me back when you see this message. If it's inconvenient, you can simply reply to my message."
If Sean didn't respond after half an hour, she would find a way to go upstairs and see what was happening. She would be prepared to call the police at any time.
Angeline gripped her phone tightly and stood at the second-floor railing. She looked up at the elevator, which was still stopped on the fourth floor, and then returned to their private room.
Marion was very interested in the waiters with their sculpted abs, and she stood happily in the doorway, watching them as she snapped countless photos with her phone.
