"No. I have to stay with you," Lenny insisted, unwilling to release the umbrella.
Angeline glanced over at a cafe on the sidewalk.
Three minutes later, she and Ned were sat across from each other at the cafe. His gaze was fixated on her as he struggled to maintain his composure.
In a hoarse voice, he began, "Congratulations—"
"Did you come all the way here to congratulate me?"
Angeline brought her coffee near to her lips.
"I remember I told you to stay away from me. I find it very annoying."
His grip around the coffee cup tightened as he asked, "Did you establish Vitality Biotech Group?"
The million-dollar question finally struck Angeline. Having no intentions to hide it from him, she nodded.
"Yes. Did you come to beg me for Fletcher Corporation?"
Ned felt different hearing her admission directly compared to hearing it from the grapevine.
His eyes grew red as a smile spread across his face.
He said earnestly, "Angie, you've always been very talented. I weighed you down when we were together."
Angeline took a sip of her coffee.
She dropped her gaze, reluctant to meet his eyes, as she replied impatiently, "So?"
Ned wheezed, a nasal undertone evident in his voice as he spoke, "If this is your revenge… I hope you'll stop hating me once Fletcher Corporation goes bankrupt."
He didn't ask her for a chance. He simply wanted her resentment toward him to cease.
"Have you completely given up?"
Angeline smirked.
He finally couldn't hold himself back as she strode out of the cafe. Dashing after her, he wailed in the rain as she was about to get in her car.
"I regret it!" he sobbed, tears streaming down his face.
"You've… You've asked me if I'd regret what I've done to you once I regain my memory. Angie, I really do!"
He cried, "I regret it so much that I'd do anything to turn back time so I could kill myself back then! Angie… I truly regret what I've done!"
Angeline faltered, but she still lowered herself into the car.
"Once you're satisfied with Fletcher Corporation's bankruptcy, can we get to know each other again? Can we start all over again?"
She heard his desperate yells before Lenny shut the door.
Under the street lights, she gazed at the streaks of rain trailing down the car window. She felt utterly calm. She thought Ned had approached her to plead for Fletcher Corporation. She was prepared to crush his hope, just as he'd done to her at the hotel at River Town when she sought justice for Henrietta.
Only then would the sweet taste of revenge satisfy her. However, the way Ned simply gave in to her made her lose all interest.
