When Louisa went downstairs, Zachary sat on the couch, decked in a dark gray coat and a blue shirt, looking extremely put together. He was a stark contrast to Elijah, who walked with a slack posture everywhere he went.
Even seeds from the same flower would grow vegetables of different sizes. Not only did genes mutate, but they also resulted in unrecognizable outcomes.
Louisa hadn't expected Zachary to visit her. She greeted him as Zachary stood up politely.
"I'm not disturbing you, am I?" he asked.
"Of course not. Take a seat, Zachary!" Louisa played the role of the woman of the house.
Zachary sat down and pushed the things on the table toward Louisa. "I brought you some local specialties. Do try some."
Not only was Zachary chivalrous, but he was also detail-oriented. Louisa's impression of him got even better. "Thanks, Zachary!"
"The helpers told me Elijah had gone out. I might've overstepped because I didn't contact him beforehand." Zachary's explanation made it clear that he didn't intentionally show up while Elijah wasn't there.
Louisa had also heard the helpers announce that Elijah had left. It was evident where he'd gone. "You can wait for him for a bit. He'll probably be back soon."
Although Louisa was his wife only in name, she knew the role she was expected to play. As for the things she wasn't supposed to interfere with, she would stay away.
"I won't wait for him," Zachary said with a self-deprecating smile. Louisa couldn't help but recall how unwelcome Elijah had made Zachary feel the day before.
"I heard you guys were going back today. My apologies for not being able to drive you guys to the airport," said Zachary.
What could Louisa say to that? She replied, "You're so polite. We're family, so you don't have to get caught up in these acts of courtesy."
"I'll be heading back after a while as well," stated Zachary.
