Chapter 120 Unfinished Truth
Harold had been very clear that Elena had taken photos inside the warehouse.
“But I’m glad you’re okay,” Nathan said, stepping closer as if to touch her hair.
Elena tilted her head slightly, and his hand fell short.
He gave an awkward smile. “My phone’s dead. I need to call my mom. Can I borrow yours?”
“No.”
The refusal was immediate.
He had not expected that.
After a brief pause, he forced another smile. “Alright. I’ll come by tonight. Get some rest, and try not to get involved with people you shouldn’t be around, okay?”
Elena looked at him coolly. “Are you done here?”
Nathan’s face tightened. He knew he had no ground to stand on. Without another word, he left.
Outside, Alexander and Sophia were waiting.
Sophia did not hold back. “Some people really have no self–awareness. You’re not even married to her anymore,
and you
still show up acting concerned. It’s embarrassing.”
As she spoke, Sophia even exaggerated a mocking face, clearly enjoying herself.
Nathan might not carry the same weight as the Kingsley family, but he was still a Hawthorne. Being publicly mocked like that, especially in front of Alexander, was more than his pride could tolerate, and irritation quickly surfaced in his expression.
Nathan’s temper flared. “Mr. Kingsley, you might want to teach your sister some manners before she causes trouble for you.”
Alexander’s lips curved slightly. “Sophia has always been direct. When she sees something distasteful, she tends to say so.”
“I’m being polite,” Sophia added. “If I wasn’t, I’d have done more than talk.”
Sophia did not think she was out of line at all.
As far as she was concerned, the fact that she had limited herself to words instead of physically throwing him out was already her version of restraint.

Nathan clenched his jaw. “Mr. Kingsley, you’ve only been married a few days. Shouldn’t you b paying attention to your own wife instead of hovering around another woman?”
Alexander’s expression did not change. “You managed to ignore your pregnant wife. I think I can manage my own priorities.”
Then his voice cooled further. “And no matter what I do, it still won’t compare to wasting five years of someone’s life, will it?”
Nathan had no reply.
Nathan felt his anger surge so sharply that for a moment he thought he might actually lose control.
And yet, no matter how furious he was, he could not afford to challenge Alexander openly.
What exactly is Alexander playing at? Is he genuinely interested in Elena? And if he is, what about his wife? Does she have any idea what’s going on?
He left, furious. When Alexander returned to the room, the faint smile on his face had disappeared.
Elena looked up from her phone. “What happened?”
He did not answer.
She glanced toward the door. “Did he annoy you that much?”
Sophia considered it. “That’s one way to put it.”
Alexander ignored the comment and looked directly at Elena. “When are you planning to stop seeing him?”
The question caught her off guard. Was that jealousy she heard beneath the calm tone?
She had never truly thought about it. If she wanted answers, if she wanted accountability, contact with Nathan was inevitable.
Before she could respond, Alexander shifted the subject himself. “What do you want for lunch?”
It was as if he had decided not to hear whatever answer she might give.
Elena pressed her lips together. “I’m not very hungry. If it’s possible… can I be discharged this
afternoon?”
Her voice softened slightly.

Alexander looked down at her. “Discharged? Do you understand the condition your leg is in?”
She lifted it cautiously. “It’s manageable. It hurts, but I can use crutches.”
Sophia shook her head immediately. “Elena, you should stay and recover. I already called in to work for you.”
“I can’t,” Elena said, anxiety rising in her voice. “There’s something important I need to handle.”
She had already seen the news reports. Every outlet was labeling the factory fire as an accident.
But it was not.
It had been arson. A deliberate act meant to destroy evidence.
No matter what history she had with Victor or Nathan, her profession required her to report the truth.
“Step outside, Sophia,” Alexander said quietly.
Sophia hesitated but left. The room fell silent.
“Give me one solid reason you need to leave,” Alexander said, his tone tight.
Elena studied his face but could not read it. She sighed and opened her photo gallery, handing him her phone.
“These were taken yesterday,” she said. “The man in the warehouse was likely working for Victor or Nathan. He was searching for something, probably financial records. The fire wasn’t accidental. It was set deliberately to cover it up.”
