Chapter 161 Not Backing Down
“Who exactly are you calling difficult?”
Sophia’s tone sharpened immediately, clearly catching the jab in Camille’s voice.

Camille let out a short, dismissive laugh. “I wasn’t even talking about you. Why are you getting so defensive?”
Sophia was already stepping forward, ready to fire back, but Elena reached out and gently pulled her behind her.
Elena smiled, calm and composed, but there was an edge to it. “What goes on at our company really isn’t your concern. If you’ve got that much time on your hands, maybe focus on your interview prep instead. Wouldn’t want another situation like the one at Pinnacle Group. A chief editor getting escorted out mid- interview… that’s not exactly something people forget.”
Camille’s expression stiffened instantly.
That moment at Pinnacle Group had been a public embarrassment she couldn’t shake.
“What are you so proud of?” Camille shot back, her voice turning cold. “I was wondering why he even agreed to your interview. Turns out you two had something going on behind the scenes. And I was the one getting played like an idiot.”
Elena til her head slightly, as if genuinely confused. “He? Which ‘he‘? Say the name. I’m not following.”

Llena, that’s her. Monica’s out, Hannah said quickly.
Elena had already spotted her. She started walking forward.
But before she could reach them, Camille suddenly rushed ahead, brushing past Elena and her group without hesitation, leading her own team straight toward Monica.
“Are you serious?” Sophia stared, stunned. “What is wrong with her?”
Elena was just about to continue forward when she stopped mid–step.
Monica had taken off her sunglasses.
A faint smile appeared on her face.
She stepped forward and embraced Camille.

He walked up gracefully and extended her hand. “Monica, hi. I’m Elena, chief editor at Velmora Media.”
Monica was in her forties, but time had been kind to her.
Her curls fell naturally over her shoulders, her skin smooth and well–maintained, with barely a trace of age. The beige trench coat paired with a crisp white blouse embroidered with floral details, along with a dark silk scarf at her neck, gave her an effortless elegance.
While Elena was observing her, Monica was also quietly sizing up the young woman in front of her.
Her gaze moved downward. And landed on Elena’s outstretched hand.

There was no change in her expression.
She didn’t take it. She simply walked past her.
Elena’s hand remained suspended in the air for a moment before she slowly lowered it.
Once Monica and her group had moved a few steps away, Camille let out a soft laugh, unable to hide her satisfaction.
“Elena, I told you already,” Camille said, turning back with a smirk. “You’re not getting this interview. You might’ve made it to chief editor, but without the skills to match, moments like this are inevitable. Getting shut down like that in public… doesn’t feel great, does it?”
If she didn’t have to stay on Monica’s good side, Camille would have gladly stayed to enjoy the scene a little longer.
She turned and left with her team.
Sophia let out a frustrated breath. “She’s unbelievable.”
Hannah shook her head, clearly annoyed. “And Monica too. Not even basic courtesy…”
Elena smiled faintly. “She’s in high demand right now. We’re the ones asking for the collaboration. You can’t expect her to be warm and welcoming.”
Her tone was light. She wasn’t angry.
Monica had always been known for being difficult to work with.
Even if she hadn’t expected Camille to have a connection with her, Monica’s cold, dismissive attitude toward her was entirely within expectations.
There was disappointment.
But not enough to shake her.
“So what do we do now?” Sophia asked, clearly unwilling to let Elena’s first major interview as chief editor fall apart. “Do you want me to call Alexander-”
“No,” Elena interrupted immediately.
Her voice was calm but firm. “Monica isn’t leaving the country anytime soon. As long as Aetherline Media hasn’t published their interview yet, we still have a chance.”
