Chapter 220 Missed Timing
Fished
Julian glanced at Gideon. “That’s all in the past. Elena’s moved on. She’s remarried, and from what I’ve heard, the guy treats her right.”
“So fast? And he’s really okay with everything in her past?”
Gideon frowned, clearly not buying it.
Julian’s expression tightened slightly.
Gideon caught it immediately and corrected himself. “That’s not what I meant. Elena’s… she’s amazing, better than anyone I know. I just don’t want her getting hurt again.”
They didn’t talk much longer.
After Gideon left, his wife walked in and shot Julian a look. “You know exactly how Gideon feels about Elena. Why would you mess with him like that? Honestly, she would’ve been better off with him than marrying into the Kingsley family. At least we know Gideon. He’d never let anyone walk all over her.”
Gideon had known Elena for years.
And his feelings?
They were obvious.
It was just that Nathan had been in the picture back then. Elena had been all in on him, and Gideon never had a chance to say anything.
Julian chuckled. “You really think relationships run on ‘what if? They missed their timing once because of Nathan. Now Gideon’s overseas, and Elena ends up with Alexander. What does that tell you? If it’s not meant to line up, it just won’t.”
“Oh please, spare me the destiny speech.”
His wife laughed despite herself.
“But Gideon… this time, it doesn’t feel like he’s letting go.”
Julian waved it off. “That’s his call. We’re not exactly in a position to micromanage their love lives.”
The level of attention the Kingsley family gave Elena’s pregnancy was way beyond anything she expected.
The day she was discharged from St. Caldor Medical Center, she was taken straight to Kingsley Manor.
And suddenly, there were several new faces in the house.
Evelyn introduced them one by one. “This is your nutritionist, this is a prenatal care specialist, and she’s your postpartum nurse.”
By the time the introductions were done. Elena felt overwhelmed.
She honestly hadn’t expected pregnancy to turn into something this… intense.

Funianed
“I personally screened all of them. If you’re not comfortable, we’ll replace them. Walter said everything should be based on what you want.”
Ever since the pregnancy. Evelyn had been noticeably warmer.
It made Elena uneasy.
Honestly, she preferred how things used to be. At least it didn’t feel this awkward.
“Mom, this really isn’t necessary-”
“It’s not a hassle at all. You just focus on taking care of yourself. In a couple of days, wrap up your work and stay home until the baby comes, alright?”
Evelyn kept talking, her eyes fixed on Elena’s stomach like the due date was tomorrow.
Elena lowered her head and took a sip of the warm vanilla almond pudding in her bowl.
Being cared for like this… really was a sweet kind of pressure.
Evelyn continued, “Having a baby earlier is actually better, recovery’s easier. Have you thought about it? Natural delivery or C–section?”
Elena stirred the pudding slowly.
Please. Alexander, show up already…
As if on cue, he walked downstairs.
He came over and sat beside her. “Don’t you think you’re getting a little ahead of things?”
He noticed her tightly furrowed brows, reached over, took her bowl, and casually took a bite with her spoon.
“This is way too sweet.”
“What?” Evelyn looked confused. “Too sweet? I read that eating this kind of thing during pregnancy helps with the baby’s skin.”
“That’s genetics.”
Alexander leaned back, legs crossed.
“Too much sugar and rich food can make the baby grow too big. That’s harder on her body, and not great for the baby either.”
Evelyn paused, then nodded. “That actually makes sense.”
She turned to the staff. “Hold off on this for a few days. Keep her meals light.”
Elena shot Alexander a grateful look.
She had been eating these rich, overly sweet things nonstop lately, and it was getting unbearable.

Fuished
After giving instructions, Evelyn turned back to Alexander. “What about her job? Shouldn’t she take a break? She’s pregnant, she shouldn’t be working this hard”
“That’s probably not happening.”
Alexander raised an eyebrow. “Velmora Media is still in a growth phase. The strategy she put together last time was solid. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to handle it.”
“She’s pregnant. She needs rest.”
Evelyn gave him a pointed look. “Stop acting like work is everything. Pay more attention to your wife and your child.”
“Mom, it’s really fine.”
Elena quickly stepped in. “I’m not doing field work anymore. It’s mostly light coordination and reports. It’s
easy.”
Evelyn looked at her, then at Alexander.
And just like that, she understood.
Elena didn’t want to quit, so Alexander was backing her up.
She sighed. “If you two are on the same page, fine. I won’t push it. But I have one condition. The baby-”
