Alexander swallowed the pills with water and didn’t answer.
But his silence was answer enough.
Fiona caught the meaning immediately. A faint flicker crossed her eyes, but she didn’t press further. She simply started the car and drove.
Elena dropped Gideon off at his place before heading home.
She didn’t want an argument tonight.
So instead of going back to Kingsley Manor, she went to the home she shared with Alexander.
Alexander waited at Kingsley Manor until nearly midnight.
When Elena didn’t return, his expression grew increasingly tense.

Elena listened to the dial tone for a moment before getting up and heading to the bathroom for a shower.

Instead, Alexander stood up, walked into the bathroom, retrieved a hair dryer, and plugged it in.
“Come here,” he said.
Elena hesitated briefly before getting up and sitting in front of him.
The soft hum of the dryer filled the room as he gently ran his fingers through her hair, drying it.

“Someone from the team got into an accident today. Fiona and I happened to be nearby, so we took them to the ER.”
His voice was low, steady.

She knew. There was nothing between him and Fiona.

“What about you and Gideon?”

After her hair was dry, he pulled a chair over and sat facing her.
“Elena, I think I deserve an explanation.”

“I had dinner with Chloe, then we went to Blue Note Lounge. Gideon showed up. On the way out, we ran into Nathan. Gideon stepped in for me and got hurt, so I took him to the ER.”
She laid it out clearly, without embellishment.
“It’s not as complicated as you think.”
There was no way she would have left Gideon there. All she did was take him to the hospital.
