Elena felt the air around them shift, the room growing warmer in a way she couldn’t quite explain, and before she even realized what she was doing, her body gave in to instinct as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Shock filled Elena’s eyes instantly.

The thought had never even crossed her mind that the will itself could have been altered.

“You forged it? Alexander, have you lost your mind?” she said, unable to hide her disbelief.

She couldn’t understand why he would go that far.

Alexander let out a quiet, almost amused laugh as he reached up to smooth a slightly messy strand of her hair behind her ear.

“If things between you and Nathan had been good, and if the Sterling family had treated you the way they should have, that will would have stayed buried forever and never shown up in your life,” he said calmly. “But Camille came back, Nathan chose to walk away from you, so I stepped in at the right moment and made a few adjustments, which led to you marrying me.”

“Why would you do that?” Elena asked.

She felt like she was starting to understand his intention, but she didn’t dare to confirm it on her own.

“Because only by marrying into the Kingsley family could I protect you in a way that no one could question.” Alexander said, finally voicing what he had kept to himself for so long.
