Chapter 304 Online Backlash
“I only came today because my parents taught me to be a decent human being. Those three minutes there were the most I could give. She never treated me like a daughter, so I don’t owe her the duty daughter either. Mr. Hart, goodbye.”
She gave a slight nod toward Richard, then took Alexander’s arm and walked away without another gla back.
Whatever happened to Catherine from that point on-it was no longer her concern.
“Dad, look at her. How heartless can you be? No wonder Mom never cared for her.” Camille said, rolling eyes in Elena’s direction.
It never crossed her mind how Catherine had always doted on her while neglecting and mistreating Elen because of it.
“Enough,” Richard snapped, rubbing his temple. “Alexander finally shows up, and you managed to chase him off in under five minutes?”
He didn’t have the full picture, but the Hart Group had been hitting wall after wall lately-deals that were practically signed kept getting snatched at the last minute. He’d had people look into it, but they still couldn’t pinpoint who was targeting the family.
At first, he wondered if it was Alexander.
But on second thought, Alexander had no reason to play these petty behind-the-scenes games.
He’d been hoping Alexander’s visit today might ease tensions between them. And then Camille had to pull that stunt.
Camille fell silent, sulking. She still wasn’t convinced. “It’s not like Alexander’s some big deal anyway. I don’t see how he’s better than Nathan… right, honey?”
Nathan stayed quiet.
Richard shot him a look, then turned back to Camille. “I’m not counting on him. With your mother in this state, the least you could do is stay out of trouble and keep a low profile.”
Elena figured that one hospital visit would be the end of it.
She didn’t care what happened to Catherine, and she had no intention of asking.
But the next morning, as soon as she stepped into the office, Hannah walked in with a tense expression.
“Elena, we’ve got a situation.”
“What is it?”
“The PR team flagged it overnight-a bunch of personal social media accounts started posting about you and the Harts… Hannah handed over her phone. “They caught it early and managed to get a lot taken down, but there was just too much. Some of it’s still circulating.”

Chapter 304 Online Backlash
Elena took the phone and scrolled through the posts.
Just as Hannah said, the gossip was coming from small accounts with barely any followers.
The posts all pushed the same story: even though she was Richard and Catherine’s biological daughter. Catherine was now fighting for her life after a car crash, and Elena couldn’t be bothered to care.
They painted her as cold-hearted.
They accused her of having no empathy, no sense of filial duty-said someone that callous had no business working in media, that any story she touched would be just as heartless.
Elena set the phone down and pulled up Twitter on her laptop.
Sure enough.
Even though the company’s PR team had been monitoring and had taken down plenty of the malicious posts in time, some had slipped through the cracks.
People online were already dissecting her relationship with Richard and Catherine. There were even photos from her hospital visit the day before.
In the shots, Camille was weeping like a rain-soaked flower, completely broken.
And Elena herself…
She looked detached, almost indifferent, as if it were someone else’s tragedy.
At first glance, she really did come off as the heartless one.
The comments underneath had blown up.
People called her unfeeling, ice-cold toward her own flesh and blood
A handful who knew how poorly Catherine and Richard had treated her tried to speak up in her defense, but they were quickly shouted down by strangers.
[No matter what they did, she’s still the woman who gave birth to you. I seriously don’t get how you can’t even spare five minutes for her.]
[Maybe I’m old-school, but even if my parents were awful, I’d still remember they raised me.]
[Now that she’s got the Kingsleys behind her, she’s too good for the Harts…]
“Should we issue a statement? They’re the ones who treated you horribly!” Hannah was furious on Elena’s behalf
“No,” Elena said, handing the phone back. “There are too many voices out there. You can’t silence them all. The more we explain, the guiltier we’ll look. How’s that Pinecrest Medical Center story coming along?”
These little online dramas weren’t worth her energy.
What mattered was the breaking story she’d been tracking lately.

Elena frowned. “We’ll head there this afternoon.”
That afternoon, Elena took Hannah and Sophia to Pinecrest Medical Center.
Before they even stepped out of the car, they could see a crowd of parents gathered at the hospital entrance, holding signs and visibly emotional,
