Chapter 306 Gideon’s Trouble
Just as she’d expected, the lights inside the bar were still on.
“Kieran?” Elena called out.
No answer.
She kept walking toward the private booths in the back-that was usually where Kieran crashed when he needed to rest.
As she reached the last door and raised her hand to push it open, it swung inward first.

e didn’t resist-partly because she knew she couldn’t get away, and partly because she was worried too th fuss might jostle Elena. Reluctantly, she turned back. “Alright, alright. You can let go now.”

Kieran in there?”
Yeah, he is.” Chloe dropped her gaze, her reply uneasy. Her voice was barely above a whisper.
“Then what are you doing here?”
“Why can’t I be here?” She sounded defensive, and guilty,
“Chloe.” Elena’s tone grew firmer.
Chloe let out a frustrated sigh. “Okay, fine. I’ll tell you. It’s just.. it’s nothing serious, really. Ever since what happened with his brother, the whole Morgan family’s been in chaos. He’s taking it hard. I was just worried he might do something stupid, that’s all.”
“Since when have you two been…” Elena trailed off, realization dawning.
The last time she’d visited Chloe, she’d noticed her acting strangely when she pulled out her phone.
So it was about Kieran.
There’s nothing goin him like that. I’m

talk to him.”
Chloe stepped aside.
Elena entered. Kieran was slumped on the couch, asleep. He looked exhausted, dark circles under his eyes.
Her expression turned complicated.
She hadn’t imagined the Morgans would be pulled into this. Quentin was Kieran’s older brother, after all. Hearing movement, Kieran stirred and opened his eyes. “You’re here.”
Elena took a seat across from him and cut straight to the point. “What’s going on? Is there any update from your brother’s practice?”
With that crowd gathered outside the clinic earlier, this wasn’t something they could just ignore by locking the doors and staying silent.
It was only a matter of time before the press traced it back to the Morgan family.
“Don’t worry about it. My parents and Quentin are handling everything. It’s under control.” Kieran offered a careless smile, the same easygoing act as always, but Elena didn’t miss the unease in his eyes.
Kieran and Quentin had always been close.
If this really were “under control”, Haze Lounge wouldn’t be closed right now.
“What actually happened? Your brother’s a skilled surgeon, and his practice had a solid reputation. Why would there suddenly be so many malpractice complaints?” Elena pressed, genuine worry in her voice.
Kieran had always been good to her-like another brother, not so different from Gideon.
“I don’t know,” Kieran deflected, taking a swig from the bottle in his hand. “Seriously, Elena, don’t stress over this. It’s not your problem to fix.”
“Yeah… Elena, you should take it easy. You’re pregnant,” Chloe chimed in gently, trying to soothe her.
But for some reason, Elena thought she caught a flicker of panic in Chloe’s eyes as well.
Maybe.
Or maybe she was just embarrassed-caught here before she was ready to explain whatever was going on between her and Kieran.
That had to be it. Elena told herself.
“Fine. If neither of you will give me a straight answer, I’ll just call Gideon.”
Gideon was close to Quentin too. And as a med student on his way to becoming a doctor, he’d definitely know more about the medical side of things than she did.
She pulled out her phone to dial.
“Don’t Kieran sat up abruptly from the couch.

“Why not?” Elena frowned, confused.
Kieran cleared his throat. “He’s… swamped lately. I heard his rotation schedule is packed.
“Yeah, it really is,” Chloe jumped in, a little too quickly. “You have no idea-I saw him yesterday. He was running around like crazy. Didn’t even have time to stop and talk.”
The more she spoke, the quieter she became, until she finally mumbled, “Why are you both looking at me like that?”
Elena kept her eyes on Chloe. She might not know Kieran well enough to read him, but she knew Chloe. And the guiltier Chloe felt, the worse she was at hiding it. Right now, she might as well have been holding a sign that said “I’m lying”,
“What are you two keeping from me?” Elena’s voice was low, steady. “Kieran? Chloe?”
Kieran took another long drink. “There’s nothing, Elena. Really. It’s getting late-your husband’s probably wondering where you are. Chloe, why don’t you take her home?”
He was still smiling, but it felt strained, like he was trying to usher her out.
Chloe reached for Elena’s arm, her movements awkward. Their behavior was getting stranger by the minute.
And then a sudden, dreadful thought flashed through Elena’s mind.
“Did something happen to Gideon?”
“No! Nothing happened to him,” Chloe said, too fast. “He’s just busy at the research institute.”
The institute Alexander had funded for Gideon was already operational. Knowing how consumed he’d been with it lately, Elena had deliberately given him space.
But now, the way they were acting… none of this felt right.
