Sham Marriage Quit Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 36

Chapter 36 Dinner Trap

Nathan and Camille both looked at Elena with obvious curiosity.

Alexander and Elena did not look like two people close enough to be having dinner alone together.

They had clearly seen Alexander walking slightly behind her just moments ago, almost like he was shielding her.

It had only been a few seconds.

Elena had already composed her response. Her job had trained her to keep her expression steady no matter the situation.

She smiled lightly. “We were supposed to talk about an interview. I reached out earlier, and since it was already dinnertime, I offered to treat him.”

The words had barely left her mouth when Camille spoke up. “That’s strange. I ran into Mr. Kingsley at the bridal boutique this afternoon. When did you manage to talk about an interview? I didn’t see you there.”

Victoria looked unconvinced as well.

Elena blinked innocently. “Ryan called me last night about it. Nathan was there when I picked up. If you don’t believe me, you can ask him. Or you can ask Mr. Kingsley.”

Ask Mr. Kingsley?

No one dared. Even standing there in silence, he carried an unmistakable pressure.

Nathan recalled that Elena had indeed taken a call from Ryan the previous night, and his expression softened slightly. “Since we’re all here, Mr. Kingsley, why don’t we join tables?”

He meant it as a courtesy.

To his surprise, Alexander nodded. “Sure.”

Elena stared at him in disbelief. Is he enjoying this a little too much?\

Victor beamed so broadly his eyes nearly disappeared. “Great, great. Could we get a larger private room?”

Under the hostess’s guidance, they moved to the biggest room available. Victor presented the menu to Alexander with both hands. “The food here is excellent. Nathan and Elena used to come all the time. Since she brought you here, I’m sure you’ll like it.”

“You can order. I’m fine with anything” Alexander replied, not taking the menu. He lifted his glass of iced water and took a small sip.

Victor was not discouraged. He handed the menu to Elena instead. “Elena, you choose. If Mr. Kingsley doesn’t mind, just order your favorites.

Elena nearly rolled her eyes.

Victor was impressively two faced. No wonder he had raised a son like Nathan.

Her tone sounded casual, but the question landed heavily.

The air in the room shifted instantly. Even if Elena was arranging an interview, surely she would not chase. him to a bridal boutique. And no one had heard any news about Alexander getting married. Letting a journalist in on something that private did not seem like his style.

A thin layer of sweat formed on Elena’s back. She had completely overlooked the bag.

“Babe?” Nathan called, seeing her hesitate.

Elena forced a smile. “Yeah?”

“Camille asked you something.”

Nathan sensed that something was off.

Elena was about to respond when there was a crisp knock on the door. Two quick taps, and then it opened.

Sophia stood at the entrance, smiling brightly as she walked in and spoke to Alexander in a playful tone. “You ditched me after dragging me to that bridal boutique to help pick out a gown for my future sister in law, and now you’re sneaking off to have a big dinner without me? Good thing I followed you.”

So the person who goes to the bridal boutique with Alexander is Sophia?

Nathan still felt that something did not quite add up, but when Sophia stepped fully into the room, carrying a white handbag identical to Elena’s, the last trace of suspicion disappeared.
