"I'll go. Send me his digital registration code."
Without another word, his tall figure strode purposefully out of the room.
Spared from running frantically through the hospital halls, Quinn sat peacefully by the bed, gently stroking her son's burning cheek.
She was incredibly grateful he had reminded her to grab a coat.
The hospital air conditioning was freezing.
This man might look cold and intimidating on the outside, but underneath, he was meticulously attentive—a true tough guy with a soft heart.
Tonight, from rushing the child to the ER to handling all the bills and paperwork, everything had been on his shoulders.
Whenever Leo had fallen sick in the past, Dante was either working overtime, away on a business trip, or busy coddling Vivienne. He had never accompanied them to the hospital. Not once.
It had always been Quinn, running around in an exhausted panic.
When Leo was six months old, he had spiked his very first fever. It was Quinn's first time dealing with a sick baby.
She had been a frantic, terrified mess. By the time everything was finally settled and the baby's fever broke, she had collapsed in exhaustion and cried her eyes out.
The sheer, suffocating helplessness of that night was still etched into her memory.
But tonight, because he was here, all she had to do was comfort her son. She didn't have to worry about a single other thing.
Never before had a hospital trip felt so effortless.
By the time Raymond returned from the admissions desk, the nurses had already prepared the IV bag.
Leo was terrified of needles. Refusing to cooperate, he kicked and screamed at the top of his lungs.
Two nurses tried to hold his tiny arm steady, but the boy thrashed so violently that they couldn't pin him down.
Quinn tried everything she could to soothe him, but he kept howling like his world was ending.
He absolutely refused to take the needle.
A look of absolute defeat crossed Quinn's face.
Raymond stepped up beside her and looked down.
"Step outside. I'll handle this."
Quinn looked up at him in surprise.
But with her son completely out of control, she had no choice but to trust him. She stepped out into the hallway.
Terrified that the fever might spike again, Quinn felt relieved to have an extra pair of hands around and agreed.
The VIP room was equipped with one patient bed and a long companion sofa.
The sofa looked plush, but it was entirely too short for a man of his size.
So, she told him, "You take the bed, I'll sleep on the sofa."
He had already walked over to the sofa, crossed his arms over his chest, and laid down.
"There is absolutely no universe where I let a woman sleep on the sofa."
Quinn watched as the man had to bend his long legs just to fit on the cushions, feeling another wave of warmth wash over her.
*He's got a bit of an old-school protective streak in him, doesn't he?*
But how could he possibly get a good night's sleep cramped up like that?
Noticing her staring at him instead of getting into bed, he shot her a sidelong glance, his voice dropping into a dangerous, teasing drawl.
"What, do you want me to share a bed with you?"
