Just as she reached the door, a cheerful voice rang out from the path behind her. "Quinn! Your best friend is back!"
Quinn spun around to see Tara Moore practically skipping toward her, loaded down with shopping bags and flashing a blinding smile.
Tara closed the distance and linked arms with her.
"I came straight here the second I got into town. Aren't I the best?"
Thrilled to see her, Quinn took a few of the heavy bags. "What did you buy this time?"
"Just some local snacks and trinkets from a historic town in Arlington, plus a bunch of toys for my godson."
The two women settled into the living room. Quinn went to pour Tara a glass of water, only to find Raymond standing right next to the dispenser.
As soon as she approached, he clutched his cup and shifted out of her way with freezing hostility.
The man was practically radiating a blizzard. Even though he had stepped aside, the ambient temperature of the entire room seemed to plummet.
Quinn filled her glass and pulled a container of pre-cut fruit from the fridge.
Walking past him again, she noticed his eyes were cast downward, his long lashes throwing dark shadows over his cheekbones. His jaw was locked tight, devoid of any expression.
He hadn't uttered a single syllable, yet his suffocating silence felt vastly more oppressive than if he had just yelled at her.
Tara, completely oblivious to the lethal tension, happily offered him some treats. "I bought a ton of pastries! Do you want to come try some?"
Raymond shook his head. "No, thank you."
Stone-faced, icy, and totally unapproachable.
To Tara, this broody demeanor was incredibly sexy. She leaned into Quinn, giggling softly.
"Your bodyguard is ridiculously hot. How do you keep your hands off him? A man like that would be wild in bed if you could get him going!"
