A short distance away, Quinn Yates was lounging on the sofa, a packet of herbal medicine clamped in her mouth while her fingers flew across her phone screen in intense concentration.

She didn't even spare him a single glance.

Dante Hayes stopped in his tracks, staring at her for a long moment. Finally, his expression plunged into darkness as he stormed out of the villa and drove away.

That night, Dante was caught up in company matters and didn't return for dinner. With him gone, Quinn felt completely relaxed.

Since the locksmith had come during the day to change the locks, Quinn locked the bedroom door from the inside before going to sleep. She and her son had a wonderful, uninterrupted night's rest.

However, when she woke up the next morning and bumped into Dante in the hallway, he looked absolutely livid.

"Are you treating me like a thief now, Quinn?"

Quinn blinked, meeting his gaze with an innocent expression.

"I'm doing this for your own good. What if there's another misunderstanding? What are you going to do if your precious golden girl decides she doesn't want you anymore?"

"Quinn." Dante stared at her, his face dark. "The rain was too heavy last night. I was terrified Vivienne would run out and get hurt..."

"Yeah, yeah, I know."

Having said her piece, Quinn tried to walk past him.

Dante couldn't stand her dismissive attitude. He would much rather she screamed and fought with him than treat him with this unbearable apathy.

His tall frame shifted, blocking her path entirely.

"Good dogs don't block the way. Even a dog understands that. Don't tell me the mighty CEO of Hayes Corporation doesn't know it."

Her clear, bright eyes were now filled with obvious annoyance.

"You never used to be like this, Quinn." There was a hint of accusation in Dante's eyes. "You always used to understand me. No matter what I did, you always supported me unconditionally."

"That's exactly why Grandma handpicked you to marry into the Hayes family—because she valued how accommodating and understanding you were."

Hearing those words, Quinn was so furious she actually laughed.

"So what you're saying is, when you were out cheating with Vivienne Ambrose, not only should I not have gotten angry, but I should have supported and understood you?"
