Dante Hayes thought he was hearing things.
"What did you say?" he asked.
Quinn Yates looked at him, calmly repeating herself.
"I'm already married. I'm someone else's wife now."
Dante refused to believe it. He let out a dark chuckle. "Quinn, what kind of joke is this? How could you possibly remarry so quickly? If you want to lie to me, at least find a believable excuse."
Quinn's expression remained indifferent. "I'm not lying. I'm sure your lawyers will easily verify my current marital status."
The shock on Dante's face morphed into frustration, and finally, explosive anger.
"Are you out of your mind?!" he roared. "Even if you want to get back at me, do you have to go this far?"
"Is marriage just a game to you?"
Consumed by fury, Dante lunged forward and grabbed Quinn by the arms.
His predatory gaze was lethal, cold and filled with a suffocating intensity.
"Tell me! Who did you marry?"
His iron-like grip bruised her skin, the crushing force making it feel as though he were snapping her bones.
She winced, a sharp breath escaping her lips as her brow furrowed.
At that moment, Raymond Moretti stepped up, violently shoving Dante away and pulling Quinn into his arms.
He radiated an aggressive, overwhelming protective aura.
"Don't touch her," Raymond warned.
His voice was ice-cold, a sharp glare piercing through his sunglasses.
Then, he delivered a truth that Dante could never accept in a million years.
"The man she married is me."
A deafening roar seemed to echo in Dante's ears, like a second thunderbolt striking him down. His heart nearly stopped beating.
The blood in his veins ran cold.
Trembling with rage, he pointed a shaking finger between the two of them.
"What did you just say? The man you married is this bodyguard?!"
