Yanked backwards with such aggressive force.
Quinn lost her footing and crashed heavily against him.
Her nose collided with his rock-hard chest, the sharp pain instantly drawing tears to her eyes.
Seeing her reddened eyes, the man mistook it for emotional distress, firmly convincing himself that she still cared for him.
His arms tightened, locking her body securely against his.
The crisp scent of his mint body wash washed over her. It was a smell that used to make her heart skip a beat, but right now, all it did was make her want to escape.
Quinn scowled, shoving her hands against his chest in a desperate bid to push him off.
"Dante, let go!"
But her thrashing was nothing more than a mild tickle to a man of his size.
Dante just held her tighter, resting his jaw against the top of her head as his warm breath brushed her ear.
"Quinn, stop fighting me."
"I know I was out of line before. I treated you unfairly."
He eased up slightly but absolutely refused to let her pull away, his dark eyes swirling with unspoken intensity.
"Stop being so stubborn. Let's make up, okay?"
"Make up?" The night breeze caught the loose strands framing her face. "Is that even a joke?"
"We can." Dante sounded almost desperate. "I'll let the past go. I'll cut down my hours at work and spend more time with you and our son."
Let the past go?
Even now, did he seriously believe she was still begging for his pathetic scraps of affection?
Standing by the massive living room window, Raymond stared out at the front yard, his gaze locked on the two figures clutching each other.
His eyes were terrifyingly dark.
He didn't even hear little Leo calling his name over and over again.
"Ray!"
"Ray!"...
He finally looked down at the tiny boy staring up at him, realizing the kid was making a demand.
"Read me a book."
Leo shattered the suffocating tension.
Dante snapped his head around, his eyes locking onto Raymond and the boy standing on the porch.
His gaze instantly fell onto their intimately clasped hands.
Quinn's icy rejection was already driving him insane, but seeing his own son blatantly betraying him made his chest feel like it was packed tightly with suffocating cotton.
A heavy, agonizing pressure crushed his lungs.
Raymond's gaze swept over the two of them, his eyes far darker than the night sky.
"Are you done talking?" He strode right up to Quinn, placing Leo's tiny hand directly into hers.
"If you're done, get inside. The boy has been looking for you."
Hearing those words, a vicious spike of pure jealousy stabbed directly into Dante's heart.
The way he spoke made him sound entirely like Quinn's husband and Leo's actual father.
"Quinn, I told you weeks ago, you need to fire this bodyguard."
Dante scowled, staring at Raymond with barely concealed murderous intent.
