But he recalled a more pressing matter and shifted the topic.
"I heard from Yasmine that you and Dante signed a three-year agreement when you got married, and that you're divorcing once it expires. That is absolutely absurd!"
"I don't care why you signed something like that. For the sake of the Yates family, you must fiercely hold on to your marriage with Dante!"
Quinn's eyes went icy. "The Yates family has never treated me well, nor have you ever done a single thing for me. You have no right to ask me to sacrifice myself."
"Dante and I are getting divorced sooner or later. You better prepare yourself."
That sentence completely enraged Mr. Yates. Veins popped on his forehead, and he raised his hand, fully intending to slap Quinn hard across the face.
The next second, someone grabbed his wrist.
Dante stared at Mr. Yates with deep displeasure. "Mr. Yates, Quinn is my wife now. I will not allow you to hit or curse at her whenever you please."
Mr. Yates turned pale with rage but looked slightly embarrassed facing Dante. "Dante, don't misunderstand. It's this rebellious daughter saying she wants to divorce you, that's why I..."
"You don't have to worry. I have no intention of getting a divorce. Quinn was just saying things out of anger."
Before Mr. Yates could say another word, Dante grabbed Quinn's wrist and pulled her right out of the study.
The moment his fingers brushed the scar beneath her watch, he let go instantly, as if burned by fire.
"Dante, what I said back there wasn't just out of anger."
Quinn looked at him, her expression dead serious. "I really am going to divorce you."
Dante flared up. "And I told you, I have no plans to divorce right now."
Quinn figured he was only delaying the divorce because the company was going public.
"Dante, when that day comes, I hope we can part ways amicably. Let's not drag this out and at least preserve the last shred of dignity from our childhood bond."
"Aren't you just pissed that I didn't save you first back there?"
"I had it timed perfectly. I could save Vivienne and then turn back for you. There was enough time. You wouldn't have been in any real danger."
Hearing this, Quinn suddenly let out a low chuckle.
"I found the hotel you stayed at back then. The older staff members remember Miss Quinn very clearly."
Dante's chest tightened. "The day the blizzard was about to shut down the mountain, did she leave early?"
Silas replied, "Mrs. Hayes left the hotel. As for whether she went into the mountains to find you or left the area entirely, they aren't sure."
Dante tried not to overthink it; after all, the person who saved him back then was Vivienne.
Yasmine and her brother were also near Silverpine Lake at the time, but nobody ever mentioned seeing Quinn.
So, she must have left before the blizzard hit, right?
"The hotel veterans said it was a local forest ranger who first discovered the emergency and helped the rescue team get you out of the deep mountains."
"If we find that ranger, we can uncover the absolute truth."
Silas paused, sounding a bit troubled. "It's just that the ranger moved away years ago and completely lost touch. Tracking him down is going to be incredibly difficult."
"Find him, whatever it takes!"
