She Became Exactly What They Wished For novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

A soft thud.

The box simply fell to the ground.

Lawrence’s legs felt as if they were encased in cement, unable to move.

It was as if something important had suddenly been ripped from his life, forcibly torn away, leaving behind only an empty heart, beating raw and bloody.

Lawrence tightened his fingers.

The next second, his phone rang again.

The caller ID showed Candice.

He exhaled a heavy breath and answered the call.

“Larry…” Candice’s voice was thick with tears. “Are you really going to leave me? Have you forgotten the promise you made to me when I first came back? You said you would never abandon me again…”

At the same time, he could hear Javier and Claire’s startled voices on the other end of the line.

Candi! Put the knife down, don’t do anything foolish!…”

t had been two months ago, hearing Candice’s voice would have made him rush over mmediately, holding her in his arms to comfort her.

But now, as he looked out the window at the white trail in the sky, his knuckles clenched involuntarily, turning white, veins bulging on the back of his hand.

He was silent for a few seconds, then finally replied, “I’m coming over now.”

When he arrived at the hospital, Candice was leaning against the headboard, her wrist wrapped in a layer of white gauze, her face a little pale.

Seeing him enter, her face immediately lit up with a joyful smile. “Larry, you’re here!”

Javier and Claire, seeing this, quietly walked over to Lawrence’s side and spoke in low voices.

“Larry, we don’t know what kind of hurt or trauma Candi experienced abroad, but she’s been in a bad state ever since she came back. So, please spend more time with her.”

“Yes, you two used to be so close. Now that Mary is gone, you and Candi can be together again.”

Lawrence looked at the relieved expressions on their faces.

Their concern was only for Candice, and when Maryann was mentioned, there was even a hint of impatience in their tone.

“By the way, shouldn’t you and Candi hurry up and get married?”

“There’s no rush.”

His brows furrowed slightly, his tone cold and distant. “You two should go home first.”

Javier and Claire were taken aback by his sudden chill, exchanged glances, and finally could only laugh awkwardly and nod. “Then you and Candi have a good talk, we won’t disturb you.”

After Javier and Claire left, Candice cautiously tried to speak. “Larry, I’m sorry. What I said at the banquet upset you. I really didn’t mean it. I just love you too much and was afraid of being abandoned…’
