Chapter 194
After finishing the meal, Dominic went to settle the bill.
When they stepped out of the restaurant, bright, clear sunlight spilled over Autumn, making Dominic pause despite himself.
Autumn wore light makeup today. Her already striking features looked even more refined, and her lively eyes seemed almost expressive enough to speak.
She had on a white blouse and a pale blue skirt that revealed her fair, straight calves. Her figure appeared tall yet delicate, a beauty that stood out effortlessly.
“Hey, what are you staring at?” Her cheeks flushed as she chided him.
She rarely wore makeup. Today, she had made a point of putting some on before going out, yet this fool had only just noticed.
Dominic cleared his throat and withdrew his gaze. “Let’s go. I still have work to do. Where are you headed? I can give you a ride.”
Autumn felt a flicker of disappointment. What was so great about this lousy job anyway? If she had known earlier, she would have arranged for him to be her personal bodyguard.
Of course, it was too late for that now.
“My car’s parked at the García Group building,” she said. “I’ll go with you.”
“Alright.” They got into the car, and Dominic asked casually, “You haven’t been in Skyline City lately?”
“Yeah, I went to the capital with my dad. The Garcia Group has a major project that’s been hard to push forward, so we went to meet a few people,” Autumn answered openly, without trying to hide anything.
Dominic gave a brief acknowledgment. It involved business confidentiality, so he did not press further.
Before long, they arrived at the Garcia Group,
Dominic drove into the parking lot, immediately spotted Autumn’s red Ferrari, and pulled in nearby.
After getting out, Autumn waved at him. “I’ll head back first. We’ll talk later.”
“Sure.” Dominic returned the gesture with an OK sign.
When he got back to the office, he found the lights still off. He checked the time. It was only 1:30 p.m.
JewelMed’s work hours ran from 8:30 in the morning to noon, followed by a two–hour lunch break.
Many employees lay face down on their desks, fast asleep, so Dominic moved quietly.
Once seated, his thoughts drifted back to Autumn.
Lately, being around her felt more comfortable than being with anyone else.
That afternoon, Dominic received a call that was unexpected yet unsurprising.
“Dominic, do you have time today? We may need you to come by the bureau.”
The caller was Ezra, and his tone remained polite.
“Alright,” Dominic replied. “I’ll be there in about half an hour.”
As someone in sales, he did not need to clock in. He did not request leave and went straight to the Skyline City Police Bureau

When Ezra saw him, he led him into an office, gestured to a chair, and spoke in an easy manner. “Have a seat.”
