Chapter 227
Just then, footsteps approached. This time, there would be no escape.
The man yanked the drawer open and found Katherine curled inside the cabinet. His lips split into a grin that exposed a mouthful of yellowed teeth, disturbingly innocent at first glance, yet unmistakably vicious.
Terror nearly stole Katherine’s senses.
“Ah!” She let out a piercing scream, scrambled out of the drawer, and bolted toward the exit without direction or thought.
She was far too slow. She had barely reached the living room when his hand clamped around her arm.
Obsession burned in his eyes.
“Katie, don’t run,” he said softly. “I’ll love you properly…”
The filthy words spilling from his mouth made her stomach churn.
“Ah! Get away from me! Don’t touch me!” Katherine screamed without pause, fighting to wrench herself free, but the gap in their strength was overwhelming.
Her screams only excited him further. He tightened his grip and began pulling her toward his chest.
At that moment, the front door flew open.
Light flooded the apartment, casting a tall silhouette in the doorway.
“Let her go!” Dominic’s steady voice cut through the chaos.
Katherine froze. She stared toward the entrance, her mind blank, even forgetting to struggle. In that moment, Dominic was a beam of light piercing utter despair.
“Dominic…” Her voice trembled.
Tears blurred her vision as relief and joy surged across her face. The instant she saw him, an indescribable sense of safety wrapped around her. Katherine knew she had been saved.
Dominic took in the scene at a glance and rushed forward without hesitation.
Then everything changed.
The man’s expression twisted. He pulled a knife from his pocket, clearly prepared in advance, and pressed the blade against Katherine’s pale, slender neck.
“Don’t come any closer!” he snarled.
Dominic’s pupils contracted, and he stopped at once.
“Calm down,” Dominic said. “Don’t do something you can’t undo.”
“Calm down?” The man let out a low laugh. “I’m very calm. I love my Katie. I want her.”
Dominic heard the madness beneath his words. His heart sank as he replied, “If you like someone, you pursue her properly. There’s no reason for this.”
The cold steel against her neck made Katherine afraid to move. She did nothing but look at Dominic. She trusted him completely. She knew he would get her out.
A crazed gleam flashed through the man’s eyes. He roared, “Get the hell out! Or I’ll kill her!”
He had no intention of backing down.

Dominic’s voice turned cold. “Do you know what will happen if you keep going?”
“At worst, I’ll eat a bullet!” the man shouted. “As long as I can have Katie, I’ll do anything!”
He giggled, excitement burning fiercely in his eyes.
Dominic fell silent for two seconds. Then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a card.
“There’s 1 million dollars on this card,” he said calmly.
“Trying to tempt me with money? Useless. Completely useless,” the man sneered. “Katie is priceless to me. Hehehe….”
The smile on his face looked twisted and repulsive.
Dominic’s expression turned even colder. “You misunderstood. This money isn’t for you.”
“Not for me?” Veins bulged in the man’s bloodshot eyes. “Are you playing with me? Are you playing games with me?”
Dominic flashed a cruel smile. “If you dare hurt her, even a little, that 1 million dollars will be posted on the black market as a bounty.”
His voice stayed calm as he continued, “Your parents, your children, everyone connected to you, they will all die painfully.” He paused before delivering the final words in an icy tone. “In short, if you hurt her, I will wipe out your entire family.”
