Dominic frowned and asked, “Where are they?”

“Lily’s asleep in Katherine’s room, and Jessica went back to hers.”

“Then you should go to sleep too,” Dominic said.

“I don’t want to!” Isabella’s voice carried a sharp edge of agitation.

She bit her lip and suddenly flipped over, pinning him beneath her.

Dominic had no time to react. She knocked him back onto the bed, and he snapped, “Isabella, what are you doing? We’re already divorced!”

Isabella looked down at him, her gaze fixed and intense, obsession flickering in her eyes. She lifted the hem of her nightgown and said softly, “Honey, you haven’t touched me in so long. Don’t you want to?”

“I don’t,” Dominic replied flatly.

Even if he did, it would never be with her.

Isabella licked her lips. “But I want to. Honey, I love you!”

Her eyes grew hazy as she spoke. She bent down and pressed a flurry of frantic kisses to his face.

Dominic’s eyes remained eerily calm.

Just as Isabella began to lose herself, Dominic asked without warning, “Whose eyes does Alexander’s resemble?”

The question struck like a bucket of ice water. Her body froze mid–motion.

After a long pause, Isabella forced a smile. “Honey, what are you talking about? Whose eyes resemble whose? I don’t understand.

Dominic did not answer. He only looked at her.

He could feel her heartbeat racing beneath her chest and saw the panic she failed to hide in her eyes. There was clearly more to this than she wanted him to know.

All at once, Dominic felt an overwhelming sense of futility. He pushed Isabella away, sat up, and lit a cigarette.

His voice stayed calm as he spoke. “Someone told me Alexander’s eyes look like someone. Someone you keep in your heart. They said that’s why you favored him.”

‘How does he know?‘ Isabella’s face drained of color, her thoughts tumbling into chaos. ‘Should I confess?‘

If she did, Dominic would misunderstand everything. He would never forgive her.

Her heart pounded violently. She took a deep breath, forced her panic down, and said, “H–How could that be? Who told you that? Don’t listen to other people’s nonsense. Honey, I swear I only love you!”

That person was already dead. There was no reason to dig up the past and invite more trouble. In the end, Isabella chose silence.

Dominic nodded. “Alright. I understand. You should leave now.”

Isabella bit her lip. “Honey, you can feel your-

“Get out!” Dominic’s voice turned icy, the words nearly shouted.

Isabella trembled. The light drained from her face, and she left the room with a heavy heart.

Dominic locked the door and lay back on the bed. He stared at the ceiling. After a long while, he murmured, “I hope it’s not what I’m thinking…”

From that brief exchange, he felt certain that Isabella bad lied.

A dark shadow settled in his heart.

They were already divorced, but if the truth came out and proved that someone else had always occupied Isabella’s heart, then he could never accept it.

He had believed that even though their marriage ended because of Alexander, the years he shared with Isabella had been genuine. He believed in that love.

Now, that belief began to crumble. It felt as though everything he trusted had been quietly overturned, turning his cherished memories into a cruel joke.

Worse still, if the truth was exactly as he feared, then he had been nothing more than a substitute. He had mattered less than a pair of eyes that reminded her of another man. He had lived as a cuckold for seven years.

The thought was unbearable.

A cold, violent glint flashed through Dominic’s eyes.

Still, he was not in a hurry. The truth would surface sooner or later.
