Dominic returned to the master bedroom, locked the door, and hid the key. Only then did he finally feel at ease.
He took a shower and was about to go to sleep when he noticed the photo frame on the bedside table and paused.
It was one of his wedding photos with Isabella. They looked impeccable in his suit and her wedding dress. Dominic appeared carefree and happy, while Isabella’s delicate features showed quiet joy and contentment.
He had not brought this photo frame with him. Now that it sat on the bedside table, there was no doubt who had placed it there.
He stared at it for a few seconds, then reached out and slid the frame into the drawer. Only after that did he lie down and quickly fall asleep.
The next morning, Dominic got up just after 7:00a.m.
The house was quiet.
Dominic went to check on Lilith’s room. Her small bottom stuck up in the air, her head resting against Isabella’s chest. She slept soundly, snoring softly.
Isabella lay on her side, breathing evenly in deep sleep.
Dominic did not disturb them. He closed the door quietly and left.
Since he was alone, he did not bother making breakfast.
After heading out, he called Andy and stopped at a roadside breakfast shop to grab a quick bite.
Not long after, Andy arrived in his car. “Mr. Fleming, straight to the office?”
Andy spoke little and usually kept quiet. Dominic appreciated that and had chosen him as his assistant for that reason.
Dominic nodded. “Yes.”
At the office, Dominic began reviewing JewelMed’s financial reports. He had barely settled into his chair when Jewel walked in, her expression bright with excitement.
He looked up and smiled. “Miss Wright, that looks like good news.”
“It’s not my good news. It’s the company’s good news.” Jewel smiled. “More precisely, it’s your good news.”
Dominic set aside his work. “How so?”
