Chapter 274
Wendy fell from the seventh floor and died instantly. Her parents rushed to the scene, crying until it felt as though the sky itself might collapse.
In the end, Adam offered only a reluctant apology. Amid the condemnation of countless onlookers, the parents ultimately offered 1,500 dollars.
The mother even faced the cameras and said, “Adam has already apologized. What more do you want from us? He is still just a child.”
Wendy had witnessed all of this in her soul state, feeling profoundly wronged.
Back then, no one outside the window saw the boy deliberately trip her with his leg. Even if someone had seen it, they likely would not have spoken up.
Without evidence, intervening would only invite trouble. More importantly, Adam was only 10 years old. Even if he had acted intentionally, the law could not punish him. And just like that, the matter was closed.
The hospital compensated Wendy’s family with a sum of money and had her cremated that very day.
All of it left her seething with anger and injustice. She had believed that after becoming a vengeful spirit, she could follow Adam’s family and exact revenge. After a few days, she realized she could not do anything at all.
Today, she finally gave up. Her last wish was to return to the countryside and see her grandmother one last time.
After Dominic finished listening to Wendy’s story, his expression darkened.
Parents like that, and a child like that, were nothing but human trash.
Noticing his expression, Wendy suddenly smiled and said frankly, “You’re older than me, so I’ll call you Mr. Fleming. Actually, after dying, I found it pretty amazing. There’s no heat or cold, no need to shower or change clothes, and no need to eat or sleep.”
“I’ve experienced that too,” Dominic said quietly.
She shifted restlessly, unable to stay still. A few seconds later, she said with delight, “Mr. Fleming, I can feel it. Could it be that I’m alive again?”
Dominic shook his head and sighed. “I can only let you appear for a short time.”
“Oh.” Wendy understood at once. A flicker of disappointment crossed her face, but she quickly brightened again. “Mr. Fleming, you really are an underworld representative. No, scratch that. You’re going to end up running the whole operation.”
As she spoke, she leaned closer, lowered her voice, stretched out a finger, and traced circles on Dominic’s arm. She wiggled her eyebrows and said, “When I go back down later, I’ll be relying on you, God Dominic, to take good care of me.”
Dominic froze for a moment, then burst out laughing. Even as he laughed, a trace of sadness crept into his heart. ‘What a cheerful and kind girl.‘
It felt as though sand had gotten into his eyes. He sniffed, started the car, and said, “Let’s not talk about that for now. What do you want to eat? I’ll take you.”
