The long crying and silence had left the middle–aged woman’s voice hoarse. She said, “Honey… I’ll go make dinner…”

The man shook his head quietly and said nothing.

Today marked the seventh day since their daughter’s death. A photo of her rested on the coffee table. The man’s eyes held only sorrow and anger, nothing else.

The man was Caleb Newman, and the woman was Eunice Clark. They were Wendy’s parents.

Caleb stared at Wendy’s photo. After a long while, he whispered, “Wendy, don’t be afraid. Dad will avenge you.”

Eunice did not respond.
