Dominic’s arm seemed to carry a quiet kind of magic. Wrapped in it, Jessica felt as though she were inside the strongest fortress, warm and completely safe. She narrowed her eyes in contentment, curving them like a crescent moon.
Drowsiness washed over her, and she could no longer resist it. Her eyes closed. “Dominic, I’m gonna sleep for a bit.”
Dominic said nothing.
Time passed, minute by minute. Before he realized it, half an hour had gone by.
Her breathing settled into a steady rhythm, and he knew she was sound asleep. He carefully laid her flat on the bed.
He straightened, shook his sore, numb arm, and let out a quiet laugh. “Sleep well.”
Jessica murmured in her sleep, though it was impossible to tell whether she was responding to him.
He stood there for a long while, watching her, before he finally turned to leave.
As he stepped out of the room, a faint sense of reluctance tugged at him. Somehow, without his noticing, the little maniac had already found her way into his heart.
When he walked out of the villa, he spotted Roy watering the flowers nearby. He greeted him. “Roy, Jessica’s already asleep. I’m heading out.”
Roy turned, glanced at him, and lifted the watering can with a chuckle. “Mr. Fleming, go take care of your work. I’m busy with the flowers, so I won’t see you off.”
Dominic found the butler unexpectedly interesting. He smiled and nodded, then got into his car and drove away.
After he left, Roy finally set the watering can aside. He sighed, took out his phone, and made a call.
The line connected quickly. The voice on the other end sounded calm. “Speak.”
Roy lowered his voice. “Madam, Mr. Fleming came to visit your daughter just now.”
“Just now?” she asked evenly. “Then where is he now?”
A thin sheen of sweat formed on Roy’s forehead. “He… has left.”
That single sentence told her everything. She gave a soft chuckle. “Roy, this is the first time, and it will also be the last. Do you understand?”
Roy’s face drained of color. He nodded repeatedly. “I understand. I understand.”
“Good. That’s all. What is Jessica doing right now?”
“She is in her room. She’s already asleep.”
With that, Jessica’s mother ended the call.
Roy kept holding the phone long after the line went dead, panic plain on his face.
Dominic left Orn Lake and went straight to the hospital.
When he entered the ward, Jewel was still scrolling on her phone. She looked up and spoke with a cold edge. “So you still remember how to come back?”
Dominic paused. That tone caught him off guard.

“I went out to take care of something,” he said, irritation creeping in.

Jewel sneered. “After you left, the police showed up. Your ex–wife came. Your ex sister–in–law came, Autumn came too. You just walked out and left me here to deal with this mess. You’re really something, Mr. Fleming.”
“I really did have things to handle. When they came, couldn’t you just say I wasn’t here?” Dominic shot back, full of confidence.
Jewel scoffed. “You think it’s that simple?”
Setting everything else aside, just the look from his ex–wife had been enough. She had looked ready to tear Jewel apart.
The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt. She had gained nothing and still ended up buried in trouble. It felt like a complete loss.
Dominic laughed softly. “Don’t sweat the small stuff. Turn around for a minute. I need to change.”
Jewel exploded. “I’m not turning around. If you’ve got the guts, then change.”
“I will!”
