Katherine gave a soft laugh. “Oh? So you’re pretending to have a boyfriend?”

Katherine glanced at Dominic, then spoke. “Usually, there are two reasons someone pretends to have a boyfriend in front of others. The first is to avoid further involvement with the other person.”

“I’m the second,” Autumn cut her off before she could continue.

“The second is simple. It’s meant to make the other person jealous.” Katherine chuckled, clearly unfazed. She stood, walked over to Isabella, and smiled. “Looks like your tactics are working quite well.”

The remark wiped the expression from Autumn’s face. The matter had already passed, yet a few words from Katherine twisted it into something ugly.

In her telling, Autumn had schemed and played tricks on Dominic. But that was never my intention. The thought unsettled Autumn. She quietly studied Dominic.

He kept his head down, silent, focused on his meal. The sight made her uneasy.

By contrast, Isabella was thrilled. She shot Katherine a grateful look. After fighting on her own for so long, she finally had an ally. With her sister’s help, Autumn no longer seemed threatening. Even if Jessica joined in, Isabella felt she could handle it.

Dominic knew he could not stay silent any longer. He looked up and spoke with a weary tone. “That’s enough. Katherine, take her home. I’m tired. I’ll go to bed after I finish eating.”

If it were only Isabella, he could take a clear stance and support Autumn. With Katherine involved, the situation changed. He could not favor either side and had to maintain balance. After some thought, he decided that separating them as quickly as possible was the only solution.

Katherine smiled when she heard him. “Alright. We’ll wait for you at home.”

The words made Autumn frown.

After speaking, Katherine gripped Isabella’s arm and pulled her out.

After she left, Dominic lit a cigarette.

Jewel reached out her hand. “Give me one.”

Dominic glanced at her. “Why does a woman like you smoke?”
